Got The Go Ahead!

GUEST
Well, my wife has very graciously agreed to let me trade in one of our cars for an Avalanche!
I'm hoping to sell the Honda before we make our move to the east coast. The only catch (and this is a big one), is that she find a job before we embark on that vehicle AND that it doesn't prevent us from qualifying for a house in the next few months. So, it may take a while before we get it, but, I can wait.
Anybody know when Chevy puts on good promos? (aside from right now, but I'm sure by the time I get to look for the Av that it will be the 03 model) Is December usually a good time?
Anyhow, the single big advantage to this vehicle for me is getting me in a comfortable seating position... I'm 6'4"+, so, I don't fit into most cars, but this truck is great! I also like the convertible bed and power and maneuverability of it... I can actually make trips to Home Depot again and do my own renovations, etc.! I love to build!

Awesomebase I hear the best time to buy a new vehicle is at the end of the month, I would think the last day of the month in December may be the idea time to buy. U gotta watch for low financing as well. I went with a 02 3 months ago because of cash backs and 0%. Good luck.

If you don't have a GM card, get one and charge everything you would normally write a check for, then pay off a the end of month. You can earn 5% as a cash towards price of AV. My first Z-71 I bought in 98 I had $4600. in GM card rebate. I even put a roof on my house and charged it, then paid off with insurance check. GM won't allow to earn as much now but $1000 or $1500 is no pocket change.

Thanks for the recommendations! Yeah, I figured that it is probably best to wait until the end of the month. I see now that the 03 models have special financing rates. I don't have a GM card, though I wish I did. But, maybe I can get a good deal on the vehicle and opt for the special financing to save myself some real money. Thanks!
Oh, I am going to be doing a trade-in as well, so, they will probably work on the "difference" more than anything...

You will save money on taxes since you have a trade in. For some reason my dealer told me it was almost half. I think it is because you already paid taxes on the old vehicle.

Jim

I think if you wait until December, you will have to pay personal property tax for that current year, and have only owned it for less than a month.

Most people wait unit Jan to buy. That's why you see rebates from the manufactures....

Gotta run the numbers... :0:

It's because you only pay taxes on the difference. The value of the trade knocks the taxable amount down by however much you get for the trade. Depending on what you trade in, sometimes you pay no tax!
Congratulations on your new AV, tell the wife to GET A JOB!!! >:D :B:

Thanks for the kind words! Yup, we're hoping that she gets work soon. It is tough to find work in a place where you basically don't know anyone or have limited friends. She is on the alumni group of her university, but, Maryland is tough to find jobs in and she is smarter than I am!
Anyhow, I'll be hoping to get a 2003 Av soon. I can't wait for that to happen! My only complaint seems to be that the prices are significantly higher. I'm seeing more $40K+ Avs on the lot all the time. I would like to see a good $5K come off the price, but that looks to be more difficult with the new models. I'm looking to get a Z71 black 4x4 with the 4.10 gear ratio. Tough to find, so I may be able to save a little more if I have to order because of the dealer hold-back ($1500 I think). :D

Actually the price difference between 02 and 03 Av's with the same equipment is only a couple hundred bucks. The big difference is if you go for the loaded Av. They have many new options that drive up the cost.

If you want the blinking, folding, pointing mirrows and the Bose sterio with XM radio with steering wheel controls, etc. You are going to pay and pay and pay. At least you can still get 0% interest for three years.

I think it's cool that you're on your way. But, quite frankly, if you're getting ready to qualify for a new home (which you probably haven't picked out yet), I'd probably wait. Get the house first. It always ends up costing more than you think it will.

Yeah, we're going for a cheaper home, like a condo or townhouse. We don't want anything with a really big payment. We're still young and want to do some travelling and sight-seeing before starting up a family. We've got plenty of room regardless of whether we get the Av before hand or not, but, despite that, the agreement was to be "after" we close on a place. I would feel more comfortable doing that anyway... (although it would be nice to have the Av for the move!). ;D
