I just had a Hitchcam installed today and it works great. My wife loves the Av, but is nervouse about the lack of rearward visibility. The Snugtop makes it even worse. Even I find a lot of neck craning is necessary in parking lots. It's a little pricey, but the quality is tremendous and it's a company car so it's thru the office. You can set the screen to come on either only when you are in reverse, or to play all the time. Leaving it on while driving is like having your own Speedvision channel, watching the road rushing away behind you. Anyway, I know that they're not for everyone, but it is cool.

Strigil-
I was interested in knowing how they installed it. Is it actually mounted into the receiver itself? Do you have to remove it to tow or is it in practice actually installed below and to the rear of the reciever? Also, since you have it and have played with it- how quickly and easily could it be removed by persons other than you? The cost of the unit coupled with the thought of losing it to thieves would be enough to make me think twice unless there was a secure and safe way to mount it.

Yea, we need pic's of the cam and monitor!

Strigil,
I have the Snugtop also and I know what you mean...it gets really hard to see what is in back of you. I have been thinking about the reverse sensors..but would be interested in the hitch cam also...where does the monitor go? Who and where did you get it installed? Thanks!

Came across what I believe to be the unit that Strigil has in his vehicle. www.hitchcam.com I saw on other websites that the monitor was either mounted to the left of the rear view mirror or lower down by the CD holder. Check out the website and see what you think. Dealers have the price listed.

Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay, I've been a little overwhelmed the last few days. Yes, that is the correct URL for the Hitchcam. I called them, since the site stinks, and they hooked me up w/ the regional guy, who got my local installer on board. The camera fits right into the receiver and the little screen is attached just to the left of my rear-view mirror. The camera is very high quality and has pretty fair low-light capabilities. The camera locks into the receiver so it would be very difficult to remove. It just plugs into the trailer outlet. The only difficult part of the install would be running the monitor wire under the kickpanels and into the headliner, but I'm sure a lot of you would have no trouble w/ it. Still love it.
