Grill Covers DECREASE performance??

I have been doing a little research on the net, across various sites and other forums run by (don't hate me) Dodge, Ford, etc and there seems to be some general consensus that GRILL INSERTS tend to DECREASE performance for those running K&N's, Volant, etc!!

Does anyone know if this is a big deal, how true it is, etc!!

I am looking at a set of grill inserts for my Av.

I've always wondered myself. There seems that there will be a decrease in air flow since it is covering more than the stock grill. Looks only?
 
not mine....

I have a CW no prob

and a SS speed grille

no notable difference with either
 
Air intake would be like most other gm products behind a headlight. If anything it would work like putting a piece of cardboard infront of the rad on an old vehicle.. lol..
 
Yakky surprised you dont know this.............back in the day...or now on tractor trailers...you block off air flow to radiator to increase engine heat so you get warmer faster...

In Burley Idaho.... cold

I had to use a piece of cardboard to get any heat at all... that and talk the girlfriend into riding on the console >:D
 
I still see the odd piece of cardboard on the front of an old beater.. It does slow air intake over the rad and I would guess interfere with the flow to the air in take, but enough to nake a difference?? doubt it.

I have noticed one kind of interesting thing with my engine the last couple of weeks. It has been cold here for the last number of days (only a couple more thank you very much). Performance is bad on start up of course, BUT, once the engine is up to operating temps and the tranny is warmed up, the truck has MORE jump. I thought about it and it makes sense. The engine is at temp, but the air being pulled in is much colder, which gives more punch.
All that said, I'll take warmer weather thanks :rolleyes:
 
Sparky its a known fact that SC's like cold weather. Mine is doing the same thing. Unlike my SC , my body is not likin the cold very much though.
 
the cut out grilles you see will slow air down from moving over the radiator, allowing the engine to run warmer, however our trucks are in essance fender fed

the air that the engine runs on does not come through the grille, so you will not notice any performance gains/losses or other wise with a grille insert.

Nice looking grill inserts. I think most look like crap because you can see the stock grill behind it. Not yours- at least from your pictures. Very classy. How mucho dinero? Good karma to you for having the best inserts I've seen.

Nice inserts... can you get a pic to show the bottom of the brush gaurd where it touches the bottom of the bumber... I have just installed the Warn front hitch and want to get the brushgaurd and need to know if it will fit.

That should cut down on the moose hair getting to the rad when you puch them off the road (y) (y)

I've found a spinner to sit inside of my new 22's. Think I'm going to have to go for it.
 
;D ;D ;D ;Dyak i just d id my first mod wow i am so proud didnt have any problems and dont have fotos but will help anyone do it ok i bought this little pine tree about 3 inches long and about 1and 1/2 inches wide and with a string connected it to rear view mirrow wow my truck smells so good lets go modding
 
:eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: wow i am really on it today second mod i am so proud i am mechanical prone tody put on safety pressure indicators valve caps by victor made in illinoise 36psi when they are green its ok whenyellow caution red danger well no fotos but will help anyone who needs advice especially yak
