Hagerty article about the Avalanche - Another Shot?

Yuck, who designed that "render" that thing is a visual turn-off for me and doesn't seem to make any visual sense in regards to the midgate area. There's no support there and that glass would have to be removed from the outside if at all. And then stored akin to the new corvette as it's not a flat panel. It looks like a colorado with the back glass of a suburban.

Also: "Admittedly it had its drawbacks; dropping the Mid-Gate opened the passenger cabin to the elements unless the multi-piece tonneau was left in place"

Nawww.. you dont say. That's why it comes with one. That's like saying you can fit 2x4's in your sedan but your trunk interior will be open to the elements. If you're hauling something that requires that combination, you just pick a good day to do it. I dont think GM could have designed anything more modular if they tried.

I love seeing articles on these, but i sometimes have to wonder if journalists really think about things critically before writing things. I suppose im being a bit hard on them as I like the truck and I shouldnt be expecting someone to know as much about a particular vehicle that I drive, but man, is this a common theme these days.

Though, i had to catch my own tongue seeing as this was written last month with ford having just officially released the lightning coming back as well xD

I really got a kick out of a Avalanche being a "Suburban with extra rattles"!! Must have ridden in mine!

I agree with much of what was said in above posts...................:deadhorse:

Not sure the design would work as rendered since sail panels in the original were wide enough to provide support to the rear quarter panels to compensate for no roof rigidity in the rear.
I would love "the Swiss army knife" of vehicles to come back but the realist in me says it will never come back in it's standard size. Too much emphasis on electric vehicles now to bring back a gas guzzler into the GM line up.

Oh, and if you look at the design of the new Hummer, it looks like what a modern, electric version of the Avy would be and they didn't even put a midgate in that because "it's too expensive". If they aren't going to use this perfect opportunity, they certainly aren't going to being back a traditional version of it.

Saw a prototype yesterday scooting around near Milford when I was taking the scenic route home to avoid traffic. (Thank you 0 work-100% road commission)

Didn't even realize it was a hummer at first until I saw the camo on the side. Head on it looked different for some reason. Definitely looked avvyish in the review mirror. The midgate omission was a mistake, I would have been considering one in a few years when the prices fell down.
