Thought I would share a story with you guys..

While traveling from my home in Columbia, SC to Mississippi to visit my parents, I was pulled over on I-85 South near LaGrange GA (actually it was north or LaGrange..cant remember the exact city. Anyway the trooper was sitting in the grass median of the interstate. The speed limit was 75 and I was doing about 72 or 73. The trooper gets behind me and follows me for about a mile or so. (mind you this is a brand new black 04 AVY with 23" chromies.) He then turns on his lights and I pull over to the right shoulder. He comes up to the passenger side door and asks for my license and insurance. While gathering the information, I asked the tropper his reason for pulling me over and he gets highly upset with my questioning his reason. He then told me to get out of the vehicle. I get out of the truck and he takes my license and runs it. Came back clean of course, but that wasnt good enough for him. He then asks if he could search the vehicle, in which I said sure, go ahead. He pulls out his flashlight, goes into the cab and pops the hood. He searched the entire engine compartment, then went back into the cab, pulled the mats, pulled everything out of the center console and glove compartment, went to the back seats and pulled them up and then went to the bed of the truck, pulled up the rubber mat and searched my duffle bag and all the compartments, then got on the ground and crawled under the truck for an underbody inspection. Found nothing. He then asked if I had any knives or large amounts of money on my person and then pulled up my sweatshirt and patted me down and made me pulled the contents from my pockets. Then he asks where i was coming from, where i was going, who I was going to see, where i worked and how long I worked there. He then asked whose truck I had, in which I replied that it was mine. He didnt believe that, so he made me show the purchase agreement. After 45 minutes of sitting on the side of the road, he finally released me. I was so pissed off I was to the point where I was shaking and had to pull over to calm myself down. After driiving for 20 miles after I was released I decided to turn around and go back to the GA state trooper's post where he worked out of and filed a report. -the end :8:

Sounds Like A bad Weekend For Fellow AVers -
However in NJ with Tint and large wheels - you would get the same treatment--

First, when did the max speed limit in GA get increased to 75mph? Not the point, just curious.

I feel another "citizens' rights" discussion coming on, and most know my opinion on the subject. No way in hades that I'd have agreed to a vehicle search, and I'd have thought twice about even exiting the vehicle, until which time the officer decided that it'd be OK to answer my question about why I was being pulled over.

Sorry about your luck. No offense to any officers here (and I'm sure we'll hear from them) but this seems way to common to me

That is totally out of line.

Did you ever find out the reason he pulled you over?

And, when your plates come back clean and your license comes back clean, there is no reason for further action.

Sorry to see that something like this happened.

Could have been 70 max speed limit, at any rate I was a few miles per hour below so I know it wasnt speed. This occurred a couple of weeks ago..just now getting around to tell the story..

I feel your pain... I am 24 and I am sick and tired of people asking me in parking lots if my parents bought me the truck, it's like god forbid that a young person works hard and has a decent job and can afford to buy nice things. It just kills me that I get sterio typed as a "Rich Prince" just cause I have a nice truck... I usualy tell them that I work hard for my truck and then give me the "Sure you do" line. :8: :7:
Really makes me want to run them over with my AV! >:D

On your note about the cop though, yep most cops are d!ck heads. They let the power go to there head, he was just jelus of your truck because I bet he has an ole Oldsmobile in his driveway. LoL
My cousin is a cop and he is letting it go to his head too... How about instead of wasting your/our/my time, pull over the 70 year old woman/man doing 25mph on a 55mph road, chagning lanes with no singal and can barley see over the wheel!!! Living in Florida this an every day ocurance.

SAVE ME FROM THIS SH!T HOLE!!!! I amshamed to tell people I was born here. Two more years and I am outta here, look Arizona another 4x4 AV coming your way soon!

Did he ticket you for dark tint? Did he ticket you at all?

And AFAIK, temp plates is not a legitimate reason to pull somone over, not that there has to be a legitimate reason

jay, no offense intended, but what race are you. Maybe this had something to do with it ???

Im a black 29 year old spacecraft controller, married with 3 kids and a beautiful wife, a beautiful home and a white 9 month old Bichon Frise puppy. ;D

First off VERY NICE AV. Ga. has given me problems before but I was at fault. The way your where treated scares me and although I am far from being a lib. we need to have our rights back when the law could not take your cash and then let you go to court to prove it is yours.Asking to search your vechicle should be banned also,do you have police knocking on your door at home asking to search your home without a court order ?

a warning for non-expired temp tags? brilliant.

Did you have that snow-white puppy with you? Maybe HE got profiled :2: What you report is unfortunate, and I'll bet that your TRUCK was what was profiled...probably couldn't even see in to ID your race. I can sorta understand pulling you for the tint, but after everything came back clean, he's just being an a-hole for wanting to search your truck. Totally inappropriate IMHO.

jayteez, I'm not a big fan of WBH or big rims, but that is a might fine-looking ride you've got there (y)

jayteez,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Heavy tinting always causes problems. Since you got the warning about the tinting, do you have to remove the tinting?

Jaytees,

Dude, I'm sorry to hear about your issues with that cop...He was totally out of line....As stated, after your licence comes back clean he does not have probable cause to search your vehicle.

I on the other hand had a good experience with law enforcement this past weekend.

I was running late to see my son's Belt Cermony....He received his 3rd degree Blue belt in Vovinam (Vietnamees Martial Arts). So, I'm traveling down US 17 in Orange park, FL. The Highly Posted speed limit is 40...I mean there are signs and markers everywhere advertising the limit...They mean 40!!!!

Anyway, I'm cruising down this road doing about 60 trying to get to my destination and my radar detector goes nuts and seconds later, I see blue lights. Now mind you, I'm already late, so this was really pissing me off.

The cop gets out of his car with much aggression and says "WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM???....WHAT IS YOUR DAMN HURRY??? He's continues on with, do you realize you were doing 60 in a 40 mile an hour zone? After he stopped to take a breath, I started to explain myself, telling him about my son's belt cermony and he found his heart of gold and said...Just slow down....and he let me go!!!

I made it just in time to see my son receive his belt and watching his face when I walked in the door was Priceless. I'm so lucky to have made it and be a part of his acheivement.....BTW, my oldest Son received his Black Belt 4 months ago. His Master, let me award him his Black Belt because I received mine when I was his age. Master Lueng said it would be only fitting for me to present him with this honor. .....I am truly Blessed to have the son's I do.

jay, I just posted a long reply to this and it somehow got deleted, but the jist of it was, I think you and your vehicle were a victim of racial profiling. Also, I would never consent to one of these searches. It is an invasion of privacy and we all have certain rights. Good luck and sorry about your experience.
Dave

One thing I will say about searches....

If you refuse a search..ANY OFFICER HAS THE RIGHT to impound your vehicle and place you into custody until a full vehicle search can be completed at the barracks or house which ever is closer. I know it is a PITA and pi$$es you off but you are better off letting him do what he wants then he will leave you alone.

Jay just imagine if you told this trooper NO. You would probably still be sitting in a cell. Just not worth it in my opinion.

bonedog, I do not agree with this. Maybe it is different up North. But down here if you do not consent to a search, if they really want to do one they have to bring the dogs out. If the dogs alert on your vehicle, then it gives them probable cause to search you. That is why they ask your permission to search. They are not allowed to do it with probable cause. I have refused before, knowing that I had nothing in the vehicle. I figure if they are going to tie me up with BS, I will make them bring the dogs out. The dogs did not alert on my vehicle, so no search was conducted. BTW, I always carry at least one gun in my vehicle, and I always inform the office of this when pulled over. They seem to apreciate that.

Jay,

Sorry to hear what had happened. Racial profiling is unacceptable in my book. Anyhow, I would've asked for a superviser after the plates and license came clean and you were still being harrassed. I can "Monday morning quarterback" now and tell you what I would have done. Anyhow, at least all is well and no one can take your self-pride from you so shrug it off and go about your business. At least there was a report taken and hopefully this trooper will be under watch. Also--- not all troopers are like this. I know first hand because we have some issues at my job right now.

I love the CC Permit in Florida...have one myself.

I guess it is a NJ thing then. Never pulled over in FL.

It's not different up north, it's in the U.S. Constitution. And NO trooper has the right to detain you or search your truck without probable cause. Or your permission.
And I'm really glad you decided to go back and report this outrage. For all our sakes. Thank you.

Hey Bonedog,

Is New Jersey one of the Reprosity States that allow you to use you CWP from Florida???

Last time I checked (few years ago) There were only 18 states that allowed CWP from Florida to be honored. I wasn't sure if Jersey has agreed or started yet.

I've had mine for several years now...In fact, I'm on my second go around with having it. I'm good for another 5 years. I am however going to let my FFL expire though. To much of a hassel to keep anymore.

Jay,

There is always a jerk in every crowd. You didn't deserve the treatment. I am glad you went and filed the complaint though.

As far as the allowing a search, I agree with Oviedo. We are right on the interstate and if you don't allow a search they bring out the dog. It may take twie as long for the dog to get there from across the county so if you have nothing it may be easier. i would allow it unless i was crammed full fo crap for a vacation, because I don't think they help you reload your vehicle :E:

There was an instance here last year very much like you described. They did get the dog out and the dog "alerted" and they pulled all kinds of crap off this guys car. He had out of state tags (NY) and a blinged out car. Caused some damage and he rightfully filed a complaint and wrote a very nice letter to the paper regarding his treatment.
I am not sure what happeened with the complaint, probably nothing. A shame too cause it will undoubtedly happen again. :6:
