1) Pioneer DEH-P77DH
2) Alpine CDA-7897

I'm looking into getting a HU replacement, and this is what my research has turned up so far. I wanted XM/Sirius capability, and I wanted at least a 1.5 din

What year is your av? Those are great for '02's but not so for '03's which are double din and won't work with the 1.5 units.

For the 03 AV with Bose ( but not onstar or XM ), have people successfully kept their steering wheel controls and warning bells/chimes when going to an after-market head unit. I have the Alpine 7894 from my previous vehicle. I talked with JP customs and they seem to feel that so far, these solutions are 'klugy' and you have to either just add an amp to the OEM head unit ( via an interface that is not even out yet ), or bury it somewhere, while still still attached, when using an after-market headunit ( not to sure where people have put it when doing this ).

TIA - Dan

It has a Premium Bose 6CD-Changer HU. I realize that my Av uses Double Din, but the Pioneer and Alpine models (both 1.5 Din) that I named above seem like the best option from a specs standpoint. I could always use an adapter to make the 1.5 Din HUs work in my Double Din opening. Pioneer does make the FH-P4100 HU, which is a Double Din (but I don't like it as well as the DEH-P77DH). Are there other models that I should be looking at for my 2003 Av? So far I've looked at all of the following brands for either a 1.5 Din or a Double Din:

Alpine
Clarion
JVC
Kenwood
Panasonic
Pioneer
Rockford Fosgate
Sony.

Did I miss any brands that I should be looking at? My main requirements are that the HU be either a 1.5 Din or Double Din, and that it's XMS (or Sirius) ready.

Any reason that you want at least 1.5 Din, they make some really nice pocket dash kits that could fit below the radio and have the 1 din up top. You could always get the 7" Flip out touch screen with DVD from Pioneer and put the Navigation in the second Din slot. But that might be overkill :p

I am using the DEH-P8500MP which is MP3 and WMA compatible (not available with the DEH-P77) and it rocks!

Of course, Since I am going for a billet interior look, this HU definetly filled the bill!

:E: I had an '03 with non Bose/OnStar or XM. I was able to put a Blaupunkt San Jose MP3 in it, but did lose all of my chimes. There is a module for the bose that retains the onstar and chime functions thru the radio, but I was SOL. Don't really need the chimes. The only one that was halfway useful was the low fuel chime, but the light stilll comes on. It's a single DIN, but I'm sure there are kits to mount anything from a single to double din in these puppies. Kodiakz pretty much seems to have the part #'s memorized. :D

I would either stick with single or doulble din. I suppose you could custom in a 1.5 din but it will be a lot of extra work for little benefit as I see it. All the features you want are available in single or double. By the way, we have brackets that will bolt righ on any double din to mount it right in. My only beef with double din units (besides cost vs benefit) is that most have fixed faces and are "PLease Steal ME" pieces as they are magnets for thieves. Just my .02 ;D
