I've got an 02 5.3L Z66 Av. I just put a FM 70 series exhaust on and it sound snice. I'm still debating the whole intact modfication so I thought I would turn my attention to headers. After reading the various posts here I've seen a lot of don't buy this, this one has some serious quality problems etc. But no real reocmmendation as to what to get.

I guess before I get the recommendation of the informed members of this forum I'd like an explanation of the beneifts of the short, medium, long headers. as well.I'm just trying to get all teh pros and cons so I can make some type of informed decision.

thanks,

Another vote for the coated TOG's!

However, if you have the money and want high flow from the y-pipe also, look at the Dynatech system that replaces the manifold, cats, and y-pipe.

Stick with the mid/long tube headers, shorties are only worth 4 or 5 hp, the stock manifold flows pretty well.

I have been wondering this same think.
I have spoke with my muff shop owner several times about what I need next. And we both agree on headers. He strongly pushes the ceramic coated kind. As far as a brand, he has menioned a couple of big names, but he keeps telling me to make sure they are ceramic coated. He even said, if you buy a brand that is not coated, take them somewhere to have them coated when you get them. I totally trust my muff-man, so when I finally win the debate about why I need them, with my wife, it will be ceramic coated. FOR SURE!

This months Sport Truck magazine has a good article on headers and muffs.

I am running true-dual, flowmaster 40 with an "X" pipe.

OK, so good info despite the differing opinions. :E:

Thanks all who responded.

Next question. With the long of medium headers who does tha teffect the rest of my exhuast system setup? ie. Is there a lot of pipe cutting etc required? I have a Cat Back FM 70 system - single out the side. Nothing fancy but it sounds nice enough to make me happy but doesn't annoy the family.

Is our sponsor the best place to go for the TOG headers or are there better deals out there?

The mid/long tube headers won't affect your cat-back at all, they attach just in front of the catalytic converters.

The Dynatechs replace the whole system and will bolt right up to your cat-back.

I can't speak for pricing, I bought mine used from Redshift. TBryne offers price matching so you could shop around and go to him. I'm sure most of the site sponsors would match any legitimate price you find.
