Headlight Cover Question

I would like to put some on my Av and my wife wants to buy them for my birthday(8/15). The covers I would like to have have a clear portion over the bulb area so you don`t have to remove the covers when it gets dark. Most of my driving is at night. I had some on my 2000 Silverado Z71 and they worked great.
Also what kind of tail light cover choices are there?
Does anyone have these yet or know if they are even made. Let me know where I can find some of these.

If you do a search for BIGRED_Z71 you will find a picture of his headlights with the covers on them.

I don't know how they work at night but during the day they looked great. I think he is in Texas this week and won't be able to answer any questions but check for his posts and look at the pics in his signature line.

i just got back (only a 4 day thing) but yeah mine are total black out... what you want are the gts, gto, or avs "projector" covers.. i don't know the number.. but it's not really worth it to me. first off it's a kit... you have to buy a pair of clear covers and "tape" them... twice the price vrs. 9 seconds of time it takes to take solid black light covers off...

just my 2 cents

I also have the 4 piece blackout headlight covers. Their cheap from summit ($36). They do considerably dim your lights, so you can either take 15 seconds to remove just the bottom ones on eachside, or do what I did.
Upgrade to 50 watt foglamps, then adjust the housings so they aim higher. Lights up the road just like regular headlights. >:D

Tail light covers - I have looked all over for full blackout covers but can't find them. :( All that's out there is the slotted.

I believe I will get the full blackout but will keep an eye out for the ones like I had on my Silverado.
On the tail light covers, I guess the slots will have to do there also.

Are clear ones avial too?

I worry about the durability of the lights after scrubbing bugs off them, easier to replace clear covers than buy new lights.

Anyone ever try clear tape?

I haven't seen clear covers yet.

Interesting.

auto vent shade makes them in clear.. smoked.. and carbon fiber. like they say i am here to help... so let me help. when you order them... just the part number will get you clear... and s for smoked and c for carbon fiber.

This is what I wanted to hear. Where did I miss the part # at. Do you know if there is a pic available on these anywhere?

The part number for headlight covers is AVS #37122 (+ the letter of which color you want).
BigRed has picts, and also do a search cause someone recently posted some up close picts of the smoke covers.

yeah check out the post, Blackout Covers... i just brought it up from the dead for you. both my self and ahhyeah have up close photos.

The headlight covers finally came in yesterday along with the slotted tail light covers. Now it looks like I am going to have to remove the headlight just to get the son-of-a-guns on there. I guess I was thinking that they would just slip on like my Silverado did. One thing about these, they will not blow off driving down the road or blown off at the car wash.
Anyone else having this tight of a fit at the headlight?

I hope you got the right covers. ???
They should just slip right onto the front headlights. The covers slide in bottom first, then snap the tops in.
I have not had any problems with mine.

yeah you got me worried too. just shove the bottom tab in first... and snap in the top tab and your done. as for the tail light covers... ask rockslide.

Taillite covers should have tape on the back of them.
Step 1- paint if desired- if not go to step 2.
Step 2- before you pull off the plastic and expose the tape dry fit the covers into place. make sure you know where you want them to be placed.
Step 3- remove plastic exposing tape
step 4- place cover on taillite and press on cover starting in the middle making sure to get all the air bubbles out
Step 5- Stand back with favorite adult beverage in hand and admire your new mod.

Edz,
I am looking for covers too, but now I am worried. Did you use the order number provided up this thread? Let us know how the install goes and provide pics of the final product. We luv to see Avs.

Does anyone here have both the headlight covers and the GM bug deflector?

I'm not sure if I can install the covers because my bug deflector rests on top of the turn signals.

Worst case I am hoping is that I would have to open the hood to install/remove the turn signal cover.

I was hoping to get the covers tomorrow while I'm at TruckFest at Summit Racing.

Thanks, zimmsAV.

I'm not sure how tight the hood will close on top of the turn signal cover. My bug shield has a tubular rubber gasket that rests on top of the turn signal and if the light cover goes up under the front edge of the hood I'm afraid the bug shield may rest too "heavy" on the light cover.

Maybe a friendly sales preson will help me tomorrow at Summit.

I have the bugshield and the headlight covers on mine. There is no problem with clearance. BTW, I do just take the headlight part of the 4 covers off when I drive at night and just slip them back on over the weekend. It is a tight fit. They look awesome I think.

I am very new to this cool fan club. So, consequently I do not know exactly how it works and what is etiquette. But . . . I saw your message pertaining to the foglights. I just recently discovered the button to turn them on. I was delighted to find it and the fact that the AV has factory installed lights. However, I was dismayed to note that there seems to be no precise way to aim them. Am I missing something, or are they just sitting in the plastic housing of the bumper, with no adustment screws?

Steve

well you can aim them higher or lower useing the screw just below the drl... ?pretty easy... just use a small flathead screw driver. ?but there is no side to side ajustments... sorry.

Just an FYI for anyone wondering. I got the Lund Interceptor bug shield over the weekend, and it works fine with my headlight covers.

Here is a pic of mine with the Lund Bug Guard and headlight covers installed.

Oh well I guess I will try again later.
