I am new to this board and an AV newbie as well. If this is "old hat", please excuse me. My son accidentally pulled the passenger side seat belt over the headrest and let it retract. This caused the locking mechanism to engage and trap the seatbelt under the rest and around its' metal brackets. I struggled with it for a bit and then removed the cover over the lower seat belt attach point. There I found something akin to a grenade pin installed in wires connected to the belt! I *think* it had something to do with the side-impact air bag, so I punted that thought (with visions of the air bag pummeling me).

I then turned my attention back to the headrest, which I had not been able to pull out as of yet. I search the board and found a number of references to inserting a safety pin in to retract the detent ball. Well, after a couple of minutes struggle, my wife handed me a straight metal rod (supplied by our homebuilder to unlock interior doors) and with a little push inside the small (nearly invisible) holes on either side of the brackets, out she popped. I have a new 2004, so I don't know of this is a new feature, but it certainly worked quite nicely.

Now if I could just keep those kids' hands off my new toy :E:

YES they use a small ball to hold them in....

This is why we grind the last tab so you can puyll them out without needing a little wire or thingy to puch the doohickey ball out of way...each time.....

oh fyi
the wires connected to the seat belt are to tell the little black box (or Body computer) wether you seat belts are on or not...
IE...so if you get into a crash and sue gm for faulty belts or somthing... then they can plug a computer onto your computer and bring back old data to see if you where wearing your seat belt...

(y) Thank you for this timely information. I am going to order Sheepskin seat covers from Rocky Mountian Sheepsikin Co tomorrow. I had wanted to know about the head rests.

This site has been fantastic on all of its timely inofrmation.
