Help me out guys. I know we have heated mirrors on our AV's. I see the little defrost signal on the mirrors themselves. Where is the switch to turn the suckers on and off or are they just always on?

Anybody?

i believe it is the same as the rear defrost button.

Thanks guys. I thought that was the case but haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Haven't had the AV long enough to encounter frosted rear view mirrors.

You are all right..and they work very well if I might add....I've used mine frequently last winter and it seems like it only takes about 2 min or so.

NJAV is correct the do work pretty quick faster than the rear window, a god send after one of those freezing rains that coat you AV like Zaino....since mine is too big for the garage it has to endure mother natures wrath. One of my latest MODs was for this specific point...remote start, turn the heat up when I get home and hit the button a few minutes before leaving in the morning and all my windows will be cleared ;D

Just an interesting note: My mirrors don't have the "heated" symbol. I have confirmed that they are, in fact, heated though.

The dealer cannot explain why there is no symbol.

Another nice feature with the design of the Av: for those of you in a snowy climate, you will notice your rear window rarely get snow/ice on it as it is tucked under the roof and between the sail panels. The only time I have gotten snow/ice on mine was when it was parked rear-end facing the wind. And even then, it was just snow/ice in the corners and not all over like on my Expedition! When it snows, you will rarely get snow back to the window area.

Yet another "plus" for the Av.

I wish I had a snow problem. I haven't seen a real snow ever since I left New Jersey to come down here to South Carolina. No snow down here!

Just a note my AV is missing the symbol on the mirrors as well. Supposed to be there, will have to check to see if they work built in July of this year. I guess in the later build GM started to skimp out on some features, so I am I finding out...

I don't think all of the packages included the heated mirrors. I believe it came with the auto climate control package.

Mine has the heated mirrors with the manual climate control. ?The package that includes the auto climate control also includes a self dimming drivers outside mirror.

This is from the standard equipment section for the 2002 Chevy Avalanche...

"Foldaway outside rearview electric, heated mirrors with passenger side convex mirror "

It looks like it is standard on all models ???

Could be wrong here, but I think the "self-dimming" mirrors lack the symbol because they are different from the standard mirrors. The one's with the symbol are not self-dimming.

I had the misfortune of having my drivers side mirror broken( a case for the 03 electronically retractable mirrors). The mirror was filled with an oil that reduces the headlight glare. It also had the heated symbol on the glass. The rear of the mirror had recepticles for three wires coming from the housing holding the glass. It also had a number of tabs used to grip a cup like mechanism that remotely controls the mirror. My replacement glass had the same configuration but no heated symbol. You do not want to break this mirror the cost($22:cool: will shock you. The mirror is heated and reduces glare. This is what drives the price up I'm told.

oops looks like a smiley face popped up in place of the 8. The mirror cost from the dealer $228. You can negotiate this price, however, $161 will still leave you breathless.

Think we have another AV mystery here, my mirrors are self dimming, and heated... I do have the auto climate control... Go figure.

Mine born on 7/02 as well. No symbols. Factory mess-up? (Sorry to those that I had told born on was 8/02... I was wrong.)

I had my Passenger side outside rear view mirror replaced on Saturday. I had the heated mirrors. When I got in the Av I noticed that there was no heated mirror sign on the mirror, it loos like the indicator for heat? But then I couldn't remember if there was one on the old mirror? Last night it snowed so when I cleaned the Av this morning I pushed some snow onto the mirror to test it. Well the snow stayed on there :8: I am guessing that the dealer put the wrong mirror on, does anybody know if the heated mirror has any indicator on it showing that it is heated?

Thanks,
Mark
The original post was in another thread, but I'm replying here because it is a good idea to keep all of the related discussion together.

Mark, you probably did have the symbol before, but the fact that you don't have it now is not necessarily cause for concern, as others have confirmed that they have the heated mirrors even though there is no symbol.

If you placed snow on the mirror, and turned on the rear defroster, and confirmed that the defroster stayed on for five or ten minutes, and the snow is still there, then you may have cause for concern.

To validate your test, try putting snow on both mirrors, and turning on the defroster. Then compare the operation of the two of them. While they may not clear at exactly the same rate, they should both do about the same thing. After several minutes with the rear defroster on, if the driver mirror is clear, and the passenger has done nothing, I'd say you have a valid claim to go back to the dealer and fix it. It may be that they put in the wrong glass, but it may also be a simple loose connection.

Hope this help, good luck!

I have noticed the same great benefit of the AV. Based on this I wish they would have put the Heated OSRM on a separate switch I rarely use the rear window defogger but need the OSRM heaters a quite frequently.

My 2002 has the heat symbol on the drivers side mirror, but not the passenger side. Are they both supposed to be heated?

Yes. It lists heated mirrors on your window sticker, not "heated mirror" or "driver's side heated mirror."
