I purchased an Aline 7893 today, got home wired the new harness to the alpine one, pluged the thing in and it turns on and tunes in stations, but I can't get any sound through the speakers.

I have onstar, so I'm hoping the onstar not being hooked up isn't doing this

or

I was thinking the factory amp might be preventing sound to go through the speakers.

or its neither of these.

Also, I was looking at the factory harness, and there are wires all over the place in the plug, some dont even go into the same pins as the metra harness has. Like there is one solid purple all by its self, and it doesn't connect to the purple of the metra kit.

AND, i connected the power antenna wire from the alpine (dont ask why) to the blue wire of the metra wiring harness...should I have connected the remote turn on wire to the blue wire instead???

it wasn't the remote turn on thing :(

I'm really thinking I have to buy that 100 dollar onstar interface thing, but I dont want to :-[

dude,

I have the same head unit and experienced the same problem you are.

Mine was the remote turn on thing(I didn't connect the wire up at all first.) Then I hooked up the remote turn on to the blue wire in the harness.

I got my Harness from Crutchfield. (I know, I know not the cheapest but they have good support).

I don't have the onstar so I'm no help there either.

I know this doesn't help, but do you have any pics.

I could go take some pics of the GM harness that doesn't look like it matches the Schose harness (they fit, but the wires dont look like they match once its connected), but I don't want to take my dash apart again today :( maybe later

BTW there are a lot of brown wires going into the chevy factory harness, like more then whats supposed to be there I think.

If you left the onstar harness unpluged
you will have to connect the turn on signal [antenna] wire to a wire in the 9 pin onstar harness

I don't have the wiring diag in front of me, but I THINK it was the pink wire

That is the signal to turn on the amp
and if not on, your signal will not pass thru it

Well There ya go!!!

For the Onstar People out there. (y)

Thanks Capecruis8der!!!!

I recently had an Alpine HU installed, along with a DVD player. I had it professionally installed. They did have to add the On-Star thingy and by-pass the factory amp. Also added a dedicated speaker for the On-Star.
Good luck, I am not sure if you are setting your system up the same way mine is, So I don't know if I can be any help on this.
