Well someone came into my garage and stole my set of keys sitting on the washing machine and the second set in my wife?s purse. Yea I know pretty stupid leaving them in the garage.
The next day as expected my car gets stolen. The car was in the driveway and the Avalanche naturally was in the garage. That evening the kid comes back for the big prise the Avalanche. He actually stood in front of the garage trying to use the door remote he stole. I reprogrammed it that morning. My neighbor chased him but he gets away. Then this punk comes driving back into the development 30 minutes later well now a bunch of us chase him. Once again he disappears. Well we find out who the kid is a 14 year old punk that just got out of detention home that lives nearby. Finally after all night of watching and chasing the police catch him. The bad part is no Avalanche keys or remote. I went to two dealers and they both keys did not work. The dealer where I bought the Avalanche is saying the code is wrong. I have a locksmith at my house now changing the locks on the car but he can?t do anything for the Avalanche. Do I go back to the dealer and DEMAND the make a key that works. Is this under warranty?. I do want to change the locks and remotes ASAP could they do that without a working set? The doors on the truck are unlocked that?s how he got my wife?s purse. What a weekend??..

all the dealer should need is the VIN number from the vehicle to make you a new set of keys. the keyless entry can be reprogrammed. a new lock set would not be a bad idea since you do not know where the originals are. that won't be cheap. doors, ignition, tailgate, spare tire, and storage compartment have to be replaced. and center console key if you have one, and the key was on the same ring. did i miss any? :B: sorry that happened to you. :6:

Sorry to hear about your situation!. At least the kid was finally caught!

As for the key, I would want to get a new key code, thus all new cores, and I would think that your Insurance should pay for the new key cores and keys as well as the new remote. Minus the deductible... Could have been worse, AV wrecked on side of road somewhere!
You probably will have to go through the dealer to get them all replaced, one way or the other!

The main problem is the dealer tried to make a key based on the VIN number. I went to two dealers. The dealer I bought it from cut another key and it matched the origianal. And none of the keys worked. They never seen this before but somhow the numbers are not correct. They verified the VIN number. So right now I cant even drive the AV anywhere.

Well come to find out that the dealer cant make a key based on the VIN number. Something is hosed between the key code generated and my VIN#. At first the dealer was going to have me pay for them to change the locks. That?s the only any way they could make a key. But after some phone calls from my wife the GM in Detroit the dealer calls back saying it?s all covered except for the keys themselves.
The people in Detroit also mentioned something about a recall on the keyless entry remotes??? My wife didn?t get much detail on that.
Now that AV was towed to the dealer and is sitting there as some part is on backorder. From the dealer to GM in Detroit they never heard of the key code not matching the VIN#.

You are sooooo lucky that they there was a problem with thevin/keycode. Let alone, GM replacing everything except the keys themselves.
