HELP - MY AVALANCHE IS FLOODING INSIDE!!!

GUEST
I recently bought a 2002 Avalanche, and I noticed that my driver's side carpet was "damp" after a rain. I have taken it back to the dealership four times, and they have re-sealed the windshielD, driver's side door hinges, and luggage rack.

I just drove from Mississippi to Indiana, where I was in the truck continuously for about 9 hours in a constant rain. When I stopped, literally, over an inch of water was in the driver's side floorboard. So much, that when I finally opened the door, a waterfall of was going out of the door.

I love this truck, but cannot handle this water.

WHERE IS THIS LEAKING???

Has anyone else had this problem? When the truck sits in the rain, I only notice dampness. Driving seems to induce more water. I even found this evening that the passenger's side carpet is wet at the door carpet, but cannot find any water coming in under the dash.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

From what I recall reading threads last year this is/was a common problem. Search the threads there is much discussion on this.

I have an 03' and no problems yet.

There is a TSB on some body seams that were no sealed properly...they are in rear fenderwell...

do a search in this section and you should get some good info...

good luck

Hi I live in miami and one of my friends works in the chevy dealership. He told me that the reason for the flooding was in the hinge on mid gate. Where the track slides up and down as the midgate goes down. If you lift the track up there should be two plugs one on each side. There is a rubber gasket that they remove and this usually solves the problem. hope this helps if i am incorrect email me at Swfbplaya62@aol.com and I will ask him what to do.. Good luck

Keep records, you may need them! I would ask that my carpet be replaced after the leak is fixed!

Also, do you have a sunroof? There is a tube that runs down the A pillar that drains the water away from there, if its not put out through the hole in the bottom of the truck you could have problems there. Also it may be backed up. If you pull off the panel where the hood release is you can find the tube. Hope that helps

Spencer:

I just read your post. Did you get it resolved? Considering the volume of water, this sounds like a body seam leak in the firewall. Below the wipers is a plenum area which collects and drains water off the windshield. It should drain out both sides and down behind the fenders. If a seam is not properly sealed in this area, large volumes of water can enter the cabin. The fact that you were driving in the rain adds to the volume. Sitting in the driveway is not as severe.
If I were you, I would remove the driver's side kick pad (to the left of the park brake pedal), pull back the carpet, and flood the grill below the windshield with water. Let the water run and run and look on the inside for water running down the firewall. Your dealer should do this but not all are created equal. The fact that they repaired more than one area makes me bet they could not get it to leak themselves. If you find it leaks, take it to another dealer and explain what you did. All the arguing with the first dealer is not worth YOUR time.

Keep the little leaves out of the drains; a few can make it through the screens and plug up drainage paths. Cowl, sunroof and the bed/midgate.

Especially Jacaranda leaves! :9:

Edit: I don't know what the sunroof uses; I don't have one...
