I just purchased a 2002 Avalanche on Saturday. I'm looking at upgrading the door speakers but unsure of what needs to take place. Can they be replaced by removing the grills or does the entire door panel need to come off?

Also, I'm thinking about adding a 4 channel amp. I've read through the threads and seen there's already a preinstalled amp. I'm on a VERY tight budget so I'm trying to use stereo components I removed from the car I traded in. I have an Alpine 75x4 I should be able to use. I'll have to leave the factory stereo until I can afford to upgrade. Is there a set of pre outs on the factory stereo?

Any help is appreciated

welcome to club,......

Suggest a search for door speakers as there are several older threads on this and has tons of info........

Door panels have to come off to replace speakers front and rear...the grill only comes off from behind panel....

A new thread was started last week on two 2 channel amps versus a 4 channel amp...

also suggest looking for the thread on the stock amp bypass as it has info on where to get the speaker connections and how to bypass stock amp (which stinks....)....

Good luck and enjoy

Once you find your speaker outs and bypass the factory amp as ygmn described you'll have to use a line output converter (LOC) to derive a RCA output to send into your amp's inputs. The specifics of what you'll need to do will depend on what system the truck has installed, either the Bose or standard unit.
