I just found this group so bear with me as Im sure this has been addressed prior.

I have an 02 Avalanche 2500 4X4 with the 496. I have installed the K&N air cleaner and had the exaust redone with Raven mufflers (sounds great!), the trouble is that the thing is still not anywhere as fast as I thought it should be.
It is just a little faster than my last truck which was an 90 2500 4x4 silverado with a 350 that was only 255 hp from the factory. What can I do to make the thing run like it has a 496 without voiding my warranty ?.

I have concidered putting a supercharger in it but am concerened what the result would be with the torque managment . Will I see a big difference after reprogramming ?

Search for the 0-60 (3 times) thread...

A few 3/4toners have superchargers, but a reprogram will be needed. With the 3/4ton 28% of the power is lost in the transmission. :7:

Hog, try the Predator programer, I like it alot. They also have a supercharger for it, but I think it is too much $$, and alot of risk...good luck

I have searched for any articles with "0-60" in the subject,
no luck, anyone ?, The truck just seems like it dosn't want to really run until it gets to about 40mph.

Is it the torque mgmt ?
Will reprogramming help ?, how much ?
Is it really worth buying a supercharger if torque mgmt wont let you use it ?
Is Chevy just saying "You can buy a Big Block 496, but we wont let you use any more power than you had with our 350" ?, Dodge surely didn't do that with the Hemi.

Sorry for the Rant,
:E:

Thanks !!, I bought the AV new and havn't ran it hard, i'm guessin (hoping) that nearly 2 years of passive driving ahd put mine in "Granny" mode. I am going to find a quiet stretch of road at lunch today and give it a try.

I'll keep you posted.

HEY CHEVY_8100_HOG,

Let me know if you feel a Difference after doing 0-60 , 3x...
I also have just purchased a 2500, and feel tha for what it is rated for it does not live up to my vision...A 496 should boogie , especially with 4:10's...But I still love it

Sounds like most are forgetting that when taking off from a stop you are pushing close to 7,000 #.

These 2500's are heavier than they look.

Takes a lot of ponys to get that much weight into action.

Using tow/haul mode helps, as does getting the AV moving before you floor it, and being in 4WD also helps.

You do have to remember that curb weight is 6700#.

The 2500 is no tire burner. Heck a $21,000 Neon can blow it away without even trying hard.

The power comes when you load up the 2500 with 4 people, 1/2 ton of gear in the back, going up a steep grade and passing that car next to you at 90+ mph. It's all about torque.

Good info (y) ...Tell me more!!! I want a true 496 ;D

I think the chrome door handles will make it faster! :2:

I agree with the Nightstorm. I have mine set to 93 octane, increased firmness, +2+3+5 on the shift points. See my stats on the bottom for the added equipment, nothing outrageous. Exhaust, air filter, MAF. Feels good, powerful, insanely responsive. And to reiterate z, I was doing 80 on the highway pulling my friend's 21 foot boat and felt only a minor shimmy. Until I realized that the boat was flying around on the trailer! OOPS!

I think some have forgotten what their dads or science teachers should have taught them. If you want thorobred take-off performance you buy a stallion; if you want serious work done you buy a Clydsdale, or an ox. If you have 4-6 tons to move and want fast starts you lower gear ratios (higher rear ends) from 3.73 to 4.10 to 4W Hi, to 4W Lo - same principle. 4W Lo should get all that weight from 0-20 in a flash @ 3 mpg, but when you want that wgt cruising along at 70 mph you match the RPM power points to match. Laws of physics apply. Transmissions could be geared to provide more power/rpm's at lower speeds but at what price on a workhorse? Compromises are required and have to be geared to most users, and the EPA. Maybe a Clydsdale
could be fed higher octane mash, but it'd still be a workhorse. And my 8.1 is a WORLD better with my 5 tons than all the vans I've had before. Love it as it is, although those Flowmasters intrigue me. <g>

YOU WANT THAT TRUCK TO RUN LIKE A STRIPPED ASS APE, GET A REPROGRAMMER, A SHIFT KIT, A COLD AIR INTAKE, A SUPERCHARGER, TRANNY REPROGRAMMER, GET A FULL MSD IGNITION, PLUGS, WIRES, COILS, IGNITION BOX(OR LIKE IGNITION SYSTEM), FULL STAINLESS STEEL 2.5 INTO 3 INCH EXHAUST WITH FLOWMASTER 40 SERIES ON IT, THAT TRUCK SHOULD PULL ANYTHING OR RUN WITH ANYTHING YOU WANT

I FORGOT TO SAY HEADERS TOO TO MAKE IT RUN LIKE A STRIPPED ASS APE BUT SINCE YOU CANT SAY ASS I GUESS IT WONT BE A STRIPPED ASS APE THEN JUST A REGULAR STRIPPED APE CAUSE YOU CANT SAY ASS APPARENTLY, CAUSE ASS IS A BAD WORD I GUESS BUT I DONT SEE WHY ASS IS A BAD WORD....
