Well I have this kid at my school who said his dads 1500 hemi will smoke my 2500. I just laughed cause he must think my truck is stock, then he said how much hp does your AV have 260? I said no it has 340 stock but its around 360 mabey 380hp now. He laughed and called BS, I said well ok believe what you want. Now as far as I can tell his truck is a 1500 4x4 extended cab hemi. How much of a threat is this hemi to me? should I be worried and start modding more? Thanks for your input because I really want to shut this kids mouth without having to shut it for him >:D >:D >:D

Alex,

It is my understanding that the 5.7 Hemi will not be available in the 1500 until the middle of this year. The Hemi is currently available in the Dodge 2500 and MT reported a 0-60 time of 8.1 and a quarter in 16.2. That is a little better than a stock 1500 or 2500 AV.

In the 1500 the Hemi will more than likey run 7s to 60 and 15s in the quarter as it weights about 800 lbs less.

A 345HP engine with a 4:10 rear end in a 4500lb truck will not be something to laugh at IMO.

This guy is going to have a heck of a weight advantage for his motor - you may want to check out the specs - hp - weight.

I know you have done a fair bit to your beast, I think you can take him, just pick the surface - not to slick, and sneak up on the WOT - remember spinning tires doesn't win the race, let him leave the rubber^^

Alex,

You could lighten it up by taking off the bed covers, tailgate and spare tire to start with.

That should be worth 500lbs. ;)

The Hemi is already available in 1500 series trucks. A fella I work with has and Crew Cab 1500 with the Hemi in it. You can find them on Dodge.com too.

Thanks guys. I figure his truck ways about 5500lbs so ya he's got the weight advantage. In a couple weeks I am getting direct hits plugs and wires and mabey I will get ls1 edit to eliminate TM. If I do race him I plan to launch in auto.

Alex

So are you officially gonna race this guy, or are you guys just having a P*ssing contest? Let us know the results....and good luck!

you better beat this guy! if you don't tell us you did anyway. >:D as you can see from my avitar i am not a big Dodge fan. :D:

Well, you could test endurance while you're at it. ?Friends who have Dodges have poor (i.e. worse) gas mileage than we do. ?I'm sure he'll run out of gas before you will.

That assumes that the crowd who claims that "SUV owners support terrorists" don't get to him first.

I do plan to race him at the track if he is up to it. If not I will challenge him to a tug-o-war >:D can you say drop his tranny? >:D I hate dodges as much as you guys and I am not about to let my chevy go down to one :B:

I was reading a truck magazine in a dealership recently, in that magazine they had the Dodge Hemi, Ford Llightning, Chevy silverado 1500 and I believe the Toyota Tundra. In the 0-60 and the quarter mile, the 2500 Dodge Hemi beat the 1500 Chevy by a tenth of a second. A 1500 or 2500 Dodge Hemi would beat a 1500 Avalanche stock. With your mods, you probably would have a better chance on beating the 2500 hemi??? I am a Dodge fan, but I still love the Avalanche. :)

I ageee, go on a strick diet...don't forget the weigt of fuel either. Loss as much weight as you can.

Also, practice launching. A lot of practice will go a long way on race day.

...and I'll send you some kryptonite.

Also remove the rear bumper and all the cladding...............zzzzzzzzzzzoooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ;)

kick his ars.

All of the weight loss info is good - and don't forget to empty the top boxes.

Also, trick him into deploying his drag chute at launch!

On second thought, borrow Nightstorm's 2500. I heard it is already at 6.0 0-60!

Sorry, 02_2500 he's going to whip yer butt. BTW, the Hemi has been available in the 1500 for awhile now. My Son (in Il.) recently bought a sleeper......relatively base model, Reg. cab SWB, with the HEMI. >:D

hehe!! You didn't go there. Please tell me this isn't going there!!!!

You could also put down the midgate. Also, make sure only one person is in the truck. Maybe take off the spare tire?

Hope you win!

Personally I think it's gonna come down to driver ...

If he's a kid, I haven't seen many kids drive to the vehicle's potential...

I have seen some inexperienced drivers take a 13 second Cobra to the track, and run mid to high 14's ...

I think if you spook him at the light by jabbing it, and jumping out with that big block, he'll get rattled, and break the tires loose... If he has to back out and get back on it for that, you got him with flowers to spare...

Now, if he drives this truck a lot, and has experience hole-shotting; buddy if he's in your side window from the get-go, you're gonna have yer hands full ... I would size up a Dodge Hemi 1500HD with a Silverado Reg. Cab 5.3 ... I drove a 5.3 reg cab 2wd for a week... They have some strong mid range, and spool hard after 4000 RPM ... I could take that truck empty, and floor it at 35- 40 MPH, and break 'em loose...

Not saying your truck is weak, by all means it's not... You're gonna have to use your torque out of the hole and spook him, or you're in for it ... LOL ... I wish I was there ... >:D

Contrary to popular belief, IMO the Avalanche is a suv with a convenient truck bed. If you race, it would be a more powerful and lighter pick up versus a heavier suv. If he wins, well he should win. If you could mod your Avalanche to win this race, that would be a great accomplishment against all odds.

Thanks for all the kind words. I plan on doing alot more to my truck but it just comes down to money. Hopefuly I will have the direct hits ordered by the end of the week. I just wish I could have $850 for ceramic coated TOG's >:D >:D
