04 Z71 with cladding. Purchased with upgraded headlights (hid). And they are starting to fail and aren't all that bright. Was curious if led are plug and play or what it takes to convert.

Someone MODDED them to HID as HID never an option on AVY.

Linguistics....

I consider upgrades something he dealer or factory offers.
Mods, Modifications are what owners do as they were never offered by dealer or manufacturer...

All good but in your case whoever installed them could have done it poorly or with crap ebay stuff or ???
HArd to know what you need to do to get to LED since you are not stock and have aftermarket something making them HID.

So kinda hard to answer what you need to swap as we do not know what you have other then some sort of HID kit.
Kit could have hacked into stock harnesses and removed original bulb connector or inserted ballasts etc etc.

So to know if your are plug and play would take someone to see what they did to your truck to MODIFY it to run HID.

Picture time..... or maybe find another local member to see if they can help

Most led headlights will not fit the 1500. The rear part will hit against the radiator support.

There are plenty of newer generation LED bulbs that are short enough to fit. Check out Sealight S1 on ebay. I have a set of these in the low beam of my F-150 and high beams on the wife's Charger. Light output is great, and they don't have a ton of light scatter like many older design LEDs.

I took a grinder and shaved that radiator support to fit mine.. On the 2011 the bulbs are side by side and its the outer low beam that won't fit..
