Hitch Covers hitch steps etc pics and questions

Hi Folks,
I was wondering if any of you Mod maniacs that bought the black Rhino steps had tried to paint them? I have the grey step bars and think a grey hitch step would look great. Any thoughts or advise?

I am waiting on my GoRhino hitch step that I ordered in black. I plan on painting it gray to match the cladding, but I need to know what color exactly matches it. I did also purchase a WAAG rear bumper guard in gray. All this because of some stupid woman decides to slam into me from behind. :8: $4000 worth of damage on her 2002 Acura and for me a $30 AV hitch cover plug. >:D Thank GOD our Av's are tough beasts on the road. That is why the AV is the Ultimate Urban Assualt Vehicle.

HELP ???
I got my flip-step by UPS today (a whole other story). It looks good and I think a club sticker is going to fit real well, but here is my problem.
THe step has a running/brake light on it. The step/cover itself has three wires coming out of it about 12" long. Then in a seperate bag is a plug unit for lack of better word. It's a small flat thing with four connections (3 female and one male as I recall) and there are instructions on how to match the wires from the step to the wires on the plug.
But where does the flippin plug go ??? :p
I looked at the plug next to the trailer hitch. It is a rather large round affair and is no match for this. Anyone help?

hey fellow Canuck: From what you describe, sound like you need a simple converter that will convert our hitch (6-7 pin) to a 4-flat connector. I use one with my seadoo trailer. They sell for about $10 here, probably $400 in CDN dollars ;D

if you really need me to, I can dig mine out and take a picture for you but you can find them anywhere like Canadian Tire (do they still use canadian tire money?) or any camping/RV type place.

Doesn't one of these adapters come standard with the Av? Mine did. It's a chunk of black plastic about 6 inches long, round on one end and flat on the other. Check your glove box and side boxes. I keep mine in that little compartment on the left side of the glove box door. Looks like it was made for it. You also should've received a trailer brake controller harness with your Av.

Sounds like a complaint is due to your dealer! How old is your Av?

They're not expensive, but there's principle at stake here!

Does anyone out there have any idea of the "look" difference of the Chrome vs. the Polished Stainless?

I can't find a decent picture of the Stainless one anywhere... is it worth the extra $$$?

Thanks!

I have the stainless model. It looks much like chrome, especially since there is no chrome back by the bumper to compare it to. I don't have to worry about surface rust, gouging the chrome or corrosion underneath the plating. If it gets scratched up, it can be re-polished.

Anyone know if the hitch step interferes with back up devices? I have the Rostra and the step does not appear to interfere with it. Some of the radar must be blocked by it, but it doesn't appear to affect it reading obstacles.

Is everyone just using these for show and backup insurance then? ?You guys really don't need to the step right? ?Curious because my receiver is going unused and is asking for something chrome ?;D
I got my chrome hitch cover. I think it's great. Will need to do some wiring because I don't want to plug it in trailer plug, don't like the look. May take a couple of days but will post pictures when done

well i have a plastic doll head on my ball, just to diffrent.

but now the reason I leave my hich in.

Taking a break the other day from working, I climbed out on the roof of the building. below on the street, was my AV. with a open parking spot behind it. I watched as a car tried twice to revers into it. Parallel parking. The second time she almost side swiped my truck. She ended up with her right rear tire up on the side walk. pulling fwd she came within an inch of my hitch. no big deal........She backed up on the side walk again. She pulled fwd again. This time she hit my hitch and rolled my AV till the trany slop stoped her cold. this time she turned her wheels the right way and missed the side walk. Oh ya , I measured it, 12 feet open space behind her car to the next. 18 inches from bumper of my AV to her car, As parked.

after she got out I said from the 2 story roof "YOU HIT MY TRUCK."

She said "no I didn't"

I said "I WATCHED U"

She said" I didn't hit your truck"

now kind pissed I said" I don't care that u bumped my truck (lady) but you might want to pull your license plate back into place- U mite get a tickit....."

she then pointed a my doll head and did the universal sign for crazy.............

and people wonder why people shot people from high places......... :7:

I hope I didn't kill another thread

ALASKA AV THATS WHY I HAVE AN EXTENDED 3 WAY HITH BALL,. TO MANGLE WHOEVER GETS TOO CLOSE and because i need it.. I did slip some air lift air bags in the rear springs{minees a 1500} to compensate for any load and can set the ride hieght up or down a few inches by puffing up yhe bags

Well I drove down to the dealer I bought the truck from to show them the step and my concerns over using the trailer plug.
They looked it over and one of the guys there wired it up for me. The installation is dead simple except for the wiring. He bunched into the trailer wiring behind the bumper, ran wires and a plug from there and then a plug on the end of the wires from the hitch cover. This way I can unplug and pull the cover and put back in in a minute. He also made sure that the light worked with brakes, and signal lights.
I think it took a little longer than he/they thought. They charged me $10.00 for parts unsed. ??? ;D

I feel a little bad, this took him quite a bit of time, but I'll find a way to make it up to him. Pictures up on [icture trail later tonight, with and without sticker

There may or may not be a group buy on this, waiting to hear from Chief.
I just checked your new mods in your album right now.

How do you like all of them?

Did you have a problem with the CW grille?

The bowtie looks cool too ?;D

Very nice work!

Very nice, Sparky. BTW, it looks like that auto-polisher comes in handy.

It isn't the CW grille. It is the Stull grille, and there were no problems, fit great. Actually took the whole grille off, installed the blackout for the crossbar, then the bowtie, then the grille, then put it all back again.

With the dropped av not sure about the hitch cover, but it is a damn fine place for a club sticker

Everybody has one, so what do you cover your hitch with? Post photos or tell about it here.

Me... I just got a custom bowtie... then powdercoat it in victory red.

Here is a towel to wipe your drool with. ;)

(Note) The avalanche plate holder... nice huh?
