So here's the story. For some time now my parking brake didn't work very well. I have read all the posts related to the problem. I just figured it was a bad design from the start and I had to live with it.
Several weeks ago I noticed a strange burning smell coming from the right rear wheel. I figured the park brake was locked up. When the burning smell went away I thought all was OK. On ocassion the smell would reappear to a lesser extent and then go away.
Since we are going to pull our travel trailer next week I thought it might be a good idea to let the dealer have a look. I don't use the park brake much and I didn't want to pay alot to fix it. Well, it turns out I have a blown rear axle seal that has been leaking oil on the pads, hence the smoke and smell. ?
I'm really glad I took it in. I get a new seal and new brakes because the pads were contaminated.
So, if you smell something from your rear wheels, get it checked out!
