HomeLink Working Right?

Recently, I've had some problems with the garage door opener function of the HomeLink. It has worked great for the year I've had the Avalanche. Now, when I get home I have to pull up right in front of the door and hold my mouth just right, and hold onto the door handle with one leg out the window to get the door to open.

Use to be, I could open it from the corner---about 200 feet away.......

Called the door company that installed the opener two years ago. They said there was nothing wrong with the opener. No, duh? I checked the antenna wire on the opener. Nothing changed there, either.

My Monte Carlo opens the door just fine with the HomeLink button. The kids' remotes work fine. I called the dealer and the service guy said "Huh?"

Anybody have any words of wisdom for me?

Thanks guys.

all i can say is mine has been like that since day 1 also on my pontiac montana.

The HomeLink system has been a big disapointment for me too. I have three GDOs and I have to be within 10 to 5 feet from two of the doors to open them. On the third I could never get it to work at all. The remotes that came with the openers still open them 60 to 80 feet away. I have a friend withe a 02 Suburban and he has the same problem.

Whats up? ??? ???

I've had no problem as of yet but I've only had it installed for a week.

Can't imagine why that would happen if it was working alright before.

Mine works fine with two Craftsman garage door openers and four other remotes (all with revolving codes). I get about a 100 to 150 ft range. I do find that I have to hold the HomeLink button for a longer time than the factory remotes. I just hold until the door starts moving (maybe a second or two). If your HomeLink was working better before and you haven't changed anything, sounds like a HomeLink problem. You may want to try going through the programming process once again - maybe the frequency/code drifted a bit and the opener is not seeing the HomeLink as well. Cheers - Jim

I have been meaning to ask this same question!

Mine is the same. :7:

Door opener button used to work from the street - about 100 feet.

For about the past two months it has been getting "weaker" and now only works within about 30 feet. Kind of like an original remote would when the batteries got weak.

I have had my truck for only nine months, wonder how it will work after nine more?

Perhaps the homelink web site has some info.

Mine works from about 300 feet away....

Question to those whose it seems to be less after time: What mods have you done to your truck? Maybe a mod affected the sending thingy?

The garage door opener on ours works from about 30 feet away. The X10 home automation buttons for from around 20 feet away.

Just a quick update. The door company said it's the circuit board in the Stanley opener that is going/gone out. They hear the same story all the time.

New opener being installed Wednesday. Anybody want to buy my old Stanley opener? Forget all the bad stuff I said about it. Really........ ;)

All I know is those GENIES with the rolling code thingys are a pain to set....follow the direction in the manual and run like crazy to your truck if doing it by yourself....

Took me like 4 tries to get it to accept the AVY homelink...but now it works....

As a follow-up, the circuit board on the Sears opener was fried. It was pretty normal after 12 years according to the door guys. New opener installed and the Homelink works from the corner again.

$199.00 installed.

Thanks for help.

Question...where is the best place to point the opener when trying to program the Homelink. I have tried a couple of times with no luck. The Homelink never starts flashing faster...just goes out. Believe me, I have the opener as close to the button as possible. Is there a better location...?

wolverine,
It may be too close. I know I had to move mine back to get it to work. Also try putting in new batteries before trying it again.

Nine months later and it is working about the same.
Maybe it is the opener and not the homelink?
