Hood release cable trouble...

Would anyone have some tips on how to remove and replace the hood release cable?  Specifically getting it into and out of the driver's footwell?  Mine is stretched and won't release the hood to the popped open position.  Makes jumping a nearly dead battery to get the truck started kind of difficult...

Just a FYI cables don't usually  stretch, the latch stick. Try spraying some PB Blaster thru the grill on the latch. Give it few minutes for it the loosen it and try to open the hood. When you get the hood open spray more  on the latch. You should also use it on the doors and tailgate latch. It frees mine up when I can't get the tailgate to stay closed.
