That sound was my head coming out me a**

I stand corrected by the great XX
Ever thought of being on Jeopardy

And for the extra prize, "who is Roland D LeBay?"

After discussing replacing the horn in my Avalanche several weeks ago, I now have my replacement system on order. ?(The system is in stock, but I am waiting for the speaker to arrive.)

I decided to purchase a Code 3 V-CON system. ?This is what you normally hear in fire trucks, police cars, and ambulances. ?(Air horns are rarely air horns anymore. ?The deep sound you hear from a fire truck is really electronic, either from Code 3, Whelan, or something similar.) ?The V-CON connects to a speaker capable of handling 200W, and produces sound at approximately 140 db. ?(Keep in mind that a jet engine is 110 db and since the db scale is logarithmic, every 10 db is double the volume. ?Thus, the V-CON is eight times as loud as a jet engine.)

Further information on this siren system is available at http://www.code3pse.com/productdtl.asp?grp=cd3&familyid=4&id=24 .

While I will have other sounds I can use, such as various sirens, and am able to connect a PA to it, I will need to restrict my use of it to the air horn for legal reasons. ?(It may still be fun to experiment occasionally though.)

I hope that the speaker arrives next week and I will install it on the weekend. ?I will attempt to record the sound of it afterward, though will have to find a way to do so. ?There are warnings on both the siren and speaker to not even use the unit if your windows are open. ?It sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

I will keep you all informed!

Can this be hooked directly into the horn, so that I can just push on the horn or do I have to use a different button.
This does seem like a nice system, and I have thought about it, however I don't exactly want to have the speaker on the outside of my AV, because someone could rip it off or it could get dammaged. I also want to have it so that the air horn function is hooked directly to the horn on the wheel, but then like you said, have the PA system and buttons for the various sirens.
If this can happen I would appreciate it.

Thanks, James R.

Horn? We have horns on our AV's? All I do is just roll down the window and give the ole "California Howdy". ;D
I'm in the same boat as the rest of you.....once I went offroading that was the end of my horn. I dont even bother getting it fixed b/c I'm always out in the mud and water >:D However, when the funds become available I will be putting some kind of air horn on there!

I actually had the same problem, except everytime i used the horn it blew a fuse! :8: GM replaced it next day, and gave me a loaner car. My friend who used to work for saturn said that chevy mounts the horns, horn side up, so if you off road water gets inside and stays inside, when they replace the horn, they mount it horn side down so the water goes in and comes right out. I guess its a common problem with chevy's
