Anyone interested in off roading while at the Hotlanta GTG. Please post here..

provided I come down, yeah I'd be interested.... Me thinks after the 4x4in after the nc zoo gtg, we needa understand what types/levels of trails you are planning really are :D We made it through the "easy" ones but I think skid plates were NOT optional on those trails :)

Wv was thinking about a trip less than an hour away.. He has specifics on route..
Wv spill your beans.. Avers want to know..

Sorry guys just the thing called work gets in the way every once in a while.

The trail is in the north Georgia Mountains behind Amicola falls, it is a lot trail road, slash rock crawling. It is about 6/10 on the skill level. There is though a section if people are interested that then goes to a 9/10!! (<-- Very intense and requires plastic mud flaps and the running boards to be off the vehicles!! ) Even the Z66 on the 6/10 trail would be pushing it, because you need the low gearing of 4x4 low for a couple of the areas! I know Lanman and myself are going to make the run, and do it early so he can get back to SC. Meaning we will leave at 8:00am to make the run! So if anybody is interested, it is a lot of fun, and can teach people how to drive the avalanche on a rocky terrain!

hmm...depending on arrival time, I might be interested....the stuff BadAV took Charlie and I on was pretty intense....dunno that I need to get the same type of wear in the center of my seat again, but sounds like a definate possible.

now the 6/10 is that no running boards/etc or is the 9/10 the no running boards? ???

I am interested as well. I too was a little confused by the trail grading scale at Uwharrie. But if you guys have done it before we trust you. I think I will skip the 9/10 trail.

Charlie

6/10 it would be easier to run without the running boards. Guys it takes a whole five minutes per board to remove and re-install them. You can make it through the course with them on, the one thing that does not work though are the plastic splash gaurds they will need to be removed. The 9/10 needs both items stripped off.

Willing to give pointers at anytime, please bring a 2-way radio with you so that we can communicate what is going on!

Please feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

I would be very much for an off-roading adventure if I make it... How long would it last? I might have to head back to Florida on Sunday night...

On one hand I'm a pretty experienced off road driver and would be glad to help those of you that aren't familiar with OHV operation.

On the other, my Av doesn't leave pavement. No way, no how.

As a result, I'd love to come out and do some off roading in somebody's passenger seat. I can help spot and assist with repairs should any become necessary.

Then why the heck did you buy a Z71??? You can ride with me if you want... I am probably the only person who could stand having you ride along... >:D J/K

I am down for any kind of trail, except mud... I don't mind trashing away on some trails but, no way in heck am I getting mud all up in my engine bay. Did that on my XTerra once and never got it all out... Besides which, mud and stock tires do NOT go well together... ;D

As far as Rich goes, I think we can count him out of any GTG from here on out... Lets just stop asking him and maybe he will then show on his own with out us having to bug him... >:D

Because I could. >:D

Just kidding.

I bought the Z71 and actually I misspoke I the previous reply. My Av has been off road and will be again. I did some scouting for hunting season this past weekend and actually got it pretty dirty.

What I was saying before was that I'm not going to take it off road intentionally for the purpose of off-roading and thrash it as a result. If I need to get to a stand or pick up a deer is one thing but to drive a trail just because. Nah, been there and done that. If the urge hits again, I'll buy another Jeep.

And you can bet that my Av will be lifted some day just live Oviedo's and you can gimme crap too since I'll have a lifted 4 wheel drive that stays on the road. :p

I'd be down for some LIGHT off-roading that presents minimal risk to my daily-driver. That is IF I can come to the GTG :cautious: ;)

and incidentally, my Av has been back down the trails behind Amicalola falls, just not too far back in there. I turned around at that primitive church (it was raining, and I was by myself) :)

Doesn't this make your 3rd post ??? Is it counted per thread or per event? I think it is per event, therefore, yes, you are now going ;) :p

per thread, and only in the main thread of each event, not supplemental ones like this one, the hotel one, the arrival night one, etc. Duh. :p

for instance, just because I've posted more than three times here doesn't mean I have to go to the off-road portion of this GTG, b/c it's not even for sure that I'm coming to the GTG at all :2:

It's OK to "Split Hairs" in Huggies 3 post rule.

It's OK to "Off-Road in a Z-66" like Huggie's spotless Z-66.

It's OK to "Stop by Hotlanta". ;D

If there is enough interest I may have too take her off the road again.. Enjoyed it big time in Paris.. Still getting mud off of it

Mike

I'm interested. Never done any serious off roading, only light trails. I will have to settle for the light course. I don't have a change of rims, will I be alright? You know I can't scuff the bling bling.
