Hotlanta GTG Off roading interest

So can we get a head count of people that are going to 4x4 in the morning? Does mean leaving about 8:00am from the hotel parking lots and should be about done by 1:00pm. I know many people are planning on this being their travel day, back home so just let me know!

You do have a chance to scuff a rim, the bigger thing is do you have street tires or an All terrain tire on that beast? Street tires and the lower profile are not good for Offroading, I am more fearful you with hit a rock and bottum out the tire and bend the rim!! Your choice though.

I'm interested. Never done any serious off roading, only light trails. I will have to settle for the light course. I don't have a change of rims, will I be alright? You know I can't scuff the bling bling.

I have Nitto Terra Grappler all terrain tires. The tires are 325/60R18. The tires can do the do, it's me messing up my rims to have a little fun that's the question. The tires have a rim protector around them so unless I'm gonna be scrubbing the side of my tires down some rocks, I should be fine. I don't know what type of course this will be, so this is why I'm asking. I had a spare set of off road rims and tires and just sold them last month because I thought that I'll never need them.

Well, since I am on stock 16inch rims and stock tires (that seem to do very good) I would just use scratching a rim as a reason to buy some new ones! >:D I think a nice light/easy trail would be good for this GTG since there some inexperienced off-roaders going... (y)

Well there can be two groups. I know that the experienced off roaders wants to get out there and do their thing. I hate to have novice off roaders spoil their fun. So two groups may be a good idea.

or we can always just have folks ride with other people if they dont wanna take their trucks off road

Rob....how about Wild Will's Donut Ride >:D >:D

(y) Rob :B:....note "Old Glory".

This trail does not have a lot of Mud, there is one small hole and depends on the rain, but is more in Rock climbing low gear stuff. Like I said there is a lighter section and then a very intense section. It really is up to a group what they would like to do. I am up to having a rider or two! What we could do is start with the lighter section and when we finsih that we could go back through that section or take a couple of riders and hit the more intense section. It really is up to the group, but I have never had any complaints about this trail and experience of people. The lighter section is a good place for the Newbie to get there feet wet. It really becomes a follow the leader type of thing, where everybody listens and watches what the person in front does. That person in front will be of course me since I know the trail. There is also a stream that people can drive through if you want a splash down picture!

I highly recommend bring a sandwich and something to drink, because were we are at there is no convience stores! We could stop at place on the way up!

So right now I have attending:
Landman
Wvusquatch
Zukracer
LRNerd

Riders:
Joe Pollick
Obsydian

Maybes:
04avintheATL
Hug
Lord Aries

What day/time are you shooting for.
If it's on Sat. I can probably make it.
But I need to leave early on Sun, due to a family event on Lake Norman.

Since I only have a Z66, which did very well at the STI mudpit (doughnut track) I might add, I'll probably need to be a "Rider".
I do have plans to get a Z71...in the next 6-8 months I hope.

Rob

O.K., call me a doofus.
I just looked at the agenda and saw that the off-road adventure was going to be on Sun at 8:00am.
Count me out then, as I need to leave around 7-8am.

While I have off-road experiance in 2wd's, this will be my first time with a 4x4... ;D I would prefer the easier trail just because I am not going to be Mr. "I am a pro" and risk breaking something for no reason... Nothing wrong with starting out easy and working your way up... ;)

2wd's are actualy harder I think because everything must be done with speed and power rather then slow, brute force... I can't even recall how many times all 4 tires left the ground at the same time on my XTerra. >:D Out of about 5 off-road trips I got stuck only twice during those runs, all the other 4x4's were suprised just how capable that little truck was for a 2wd... (y)

You will be fine to come out and play on the first section. I have had many people out on this trail, and no one has ever broken anything. The hard plastic mud gaurds are really the only thing that should come off before hand!! They just do not like rock crawling! Will you tap your skid plate, yes, but just barely brushing it, but that was what it was designed for!! When you get at the event look at mine and you will see it is clean! I do place people so they can feel comfortable and will not damage anything. So come out, have fun, and then also be surprized at what your Avalanche can really do!

If you look on your Maps of North Georgia on RT 53, you will see a place called Amicola Falls! That is where we will be 4x4'ing and since I have no Volenteers for the hard section we will be just doing the easy section. If we complete it early we can always go back through it, or have people start to leave for home.

The plan is to meet at the Hotel at 7:30am, and leaving at 8:00am. On the way we will stop to Pick up Drinks and Sandwiches. It takes just a little over an hour to get there! There is a section where we will be on top of the mountain for lunch! It is a fun trail with just a couple of sections that require 4x4! There is one small mud puddle, which you can go around, and just depends on how mauch rain we get by then! Please feel free to PM me, if you are interested! If you own a 4x4 and it has not touch the an off road trail, this is your chance!!

At least I'll be there... :p
AS I recall you where the one saying my AV would get stuck at beach GTG a month ago since it is only a base 4x4... But, I went the whole day with no problems and pulled out 3 stuck cars and SUV's... Maybe you are not coming because you are affriad my AV perform just as good as your Z71 at this off-road GTG Sunday and you don't want to feel like you paid extra on your AV for nothing... >:D ;)
