What is the method of choice in bringing in a 8 or 4 gauge cable to the popular rear seat amp mounting location. Who is going through the firewall and who is going through the floor and why?

Thanks
Mike

Make a hole in the dimple in the firewall right next to the master brake cylinder. Use a grommet and you will be set. Absolutely no need to go through the floor.

There's more than enough room in that firewall for any size wire you want to poke through it.

And take note of what KodiakZ said for all of you that are considering an amp install DIY project.....USE A GROMMET! The grommet can be a simple rubber boot or one of the two piece units that meet in the firewall and screw together to form a tight seal around the wire, these are ususally only found for larger cables however. Either way is fine. Just don't cram a wire through a hole with sharp metal ready to cut through the cables outer jacket and ground it out. Bad things will happen, especially if you didn't use a fuse.

Always use the appropriate size fuse or circuit breaker for the amp within 18" of the battery. You could possibly save your Av from a fire one day.

I just recently had my Amp installed they went through the firewall however I need to double check and make sure they used the grommet I requested a 0 guage wire, was that the right thing to do.

If I recall correctly from another thread, you are running a Hifonics class D amp for your four JL 6W0's. A 0ga wire it total overkill for a single class D amp of its size. However, it's always better to have a wire that's too large for your existing needs so that you have the ability to add on later without any worry of overloading the capacity of the 12v+ cable. Just be sure that your ground is just as large also......installing an amp with a cable the diameter of my wrist is useless if the ground is a puny 12ga wire.

PS......since you have it installed, how's it sound?

Thanks DS, makes a lot of sence, I'm still waiting on the subs, should be here on Monday everything is all wired up, just waiting, I'll have to double check that ground.

0 guage wire could power a small city!!!! Just kidding, but you will never have to worry about running out of capacity in your power wire that's for sure ;D

Ok so it seems the firewall is the best/easiest way to run the cable in. Were do we run it from there? Under the carpet in the middle or along the side? Is there enough room so the carpet does not buldge up?

Thanks
Mike

Run it in side under them plastic threshold thingys....

I have seen lots on here say they do that....

I did it for rear facing lights and XM antenna wires

I ran 8 guage wire under the truck, wrapped in lumin and came upat the rear seat.

Was a pain but I have no interference at all.

Nothing through the firewall and to make sure there was no interference on any speaker wires.
