How Many 02 First Owners Are Left

Still driving my 02 Summit White Z66, 160k miles. Need to catch up on a lot of worn out parts and a sunroof leak.

Where have you been?

Linex the cladding... people have done that and looks pretty good
My LineX guy here in Nashville said that he tried it before and it did not work well. I thought that stuff sticks to anything that is prepped correctly! I thought about cleaning it and painting it with one of the tool dips for a quick fix. It worked on the front fake chrome grill to black it out.
I'm always doing something else to it. Looking for new or replacement front seats now. All the padding is deteriorating and my gaff tape job is making her look bad!

I wanted to see if anyone knows or if the Orignal owners of 02s that still have their trucks would post up, just to see how many of us are left, and how many have recently upgraded to a newer year.

-James.

In December 2002 I bought new a 2003 AV 1500 Z66 (I was a forum member back then). Kept it 4 years and 42,000 miles, sold it to a co-worker / friend of mine in 2007. I bought it back in August 2016. It had 146,000. Now I have 230,000. Just had the tranny rebuilt. Now I'm dealing with heater hose connectors (to the heater core) and a "service brake system" issue.

Body / paint / frame still in great shape (one advantage of living in Texas, no rust). Best riding vehicle I've ever owned.

This forum still provides some great information. Thanks fellow AV's owners.

Mark

Bought my Sunset Orange Z71 June 2002. I have 193k original miles. Minimal major repairs. She still starts every morning. Very little visible rust - wheel arches mostly. I am sure there is a lot of rust behind the tupperware

Hi pony boy. I still have my o2

I've been here since 2002. I have a 2002 2500 model.
It's been a great truck. Other than the fuel pump, no major issues. I would not buy another GM vehicle now though. I tend to keep them for a long time and GM is going to only produce electrics in the future. I can't see waiting hours for my truck to charge during a cross-country trip

Wow just counted on my fingers and toes.
My AVY had a birthday last week.
I have had my AVY for 19 years
it was either the 21 or 22 September 2001.

Man a lot of stuff has changed in the world since then.
I-Phones; I-phones connected to cars radios?
I-POD come and gone.
Streaming online
Facebook
MOBILE aka Cell Phone tech.
Price of gas really has not changed all that much from what I can remember.
Size of TVS of course got bigger
Analog telephones are about DEAD as is dial up internet (squeak garble tone here)
Home computers and their power.... WOW!
All the design software I use for work AutoCAD, ALGOR, SOLIDWORKS Inventor etc etc.

Man .. I need a scotch to think of all this stuff.....

So remember the first avalanches sold will be 20 early next year when they were I think first sold in Texas around Feb 2001 may have been MAR I do not remember but they had throttle cables is all I know!
Do you press OnStar button sometimes, just for guff to hear "Connected".

I have an 02 Avy with 170k miles, my great-grandfather brought it new in September 2001kept it in NC until 2015 then gave it to my uncle until I brought it from him in April 2020. She’s been great, no major issues, I’ve done preventative maintenance on it since its 19 y.o.
Stainless steel brake lines
Front and rear ceramic brakes
Water pump
Rear diff cover, gasket and fluid
U joints
ACDelco shocks
Spark plugs, wires and coils
Tailgate assist arm, cause that poop is HEAVY. Lol

My great-grandfather always said “Take care of a car and it will take care of you.” So that’s what I plan to do. She runs like a dream and I still plan on adding some off-road lighting and some new wheels since it’s due.

June 12 my Avy will be 18 years young....Alpine white Z66, 160,000 miles, in great shape (but with faded cladding). I only just replaced the original rear brake pads a few months ago! what can I put on the faded body armor to keep it looking nice? I know age old question...*sigh*
I use Carworx Refinish Restorer, https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B008A5G...abc_8KMVF28J7ERYAT075KHB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 .It works great, after 4 months and many car washes it still looks great.

Still have mine of course but this year is special.

Next week on the 22nd is 20 years since the day I bought her and drove off the dealer's lot.

This dealer has since closed being bought out by a group of the other dealers to reduce competition.

But dayum 20 years... Longest owned vehicle in my family

177K miles I need to check the hour meter - HOW MANY REMEMBER the hour meter on 2002?

She survived Hurricane Katrina & IDA and a few in between.

She is wearing her 4th set of shoes
Been a while since she showered but the deodorant is working inside.
She has her own bedroom and is home all night long....
She is a Good Girl!

I guess I will keep her for as long as she runs or I move and do not have a garage to park her in....

I still have an 02 I bought in 2001. Nearing 200k and still running fine save for small electrical demons on occasion. (PS: New to these forums. I'll get some profile info in soon.)

Hour meter! Where? How could I have missed such a thing all this time? (Please don't answer the last one. :)
