How many miles do you have on your Av?

2005 Chevrolet Avalance z71, bought used 4 months ago and its at 195,000 kilometers with not serious work done to it. Just did brakes, rear axle seal and the thermostat was replaced. Other than that just regular oil changes.

Bought my 2006 Z71 new in December of 2005. Just turned 80,000. I've done the brakes 3 times, last time replaced rotors and calipers with heavy duty. New starter and battery about 2 years ago at 65,000. All new belts and hoses, fluids last year in prep. for a trip to Florida. This year had to tackle some rust at the rear wheel wells and I'm about to hit the driveway to replace the O2 sensors after the engine light came on a few days ago. The trouble code says only bank 2 sensor 2 is bad but might as well do all 4.
Other than a pain is the ass problem with the blower motor solenoid wiring harness a few years back (I was told my V.I.N. did not qualify for the recall) this has been the best vehicle we've owned. Sounds like a lot of problems above but over 9 years really not bad at all.
I heard somewhere that Chevy won't be making AV's anymore. It's a shame if that's true.

:welcome: dogmus.  Sounds like you've had a great experience.  (y) Sadly, the General did quit making them.   2013 was the last model year.  There's always hope though, right?  They did bring back the Camaro after all.  :B:

Couldn't wait to brag. My 2002 Z-66 has 249,100. Only engine work has been knock sensors at around 186,000. Engine still runs great and uses no oil. Since I tow a lot gonna do a thorough inspection under the truck this spring and if everything looks solid I plan on buying a new 5.3 engine from Jegs . If I had more time would simply rebuild the existing one. Going to stay with the 5.3, it's exceeded my expectations. Truck has towed trailers weighing up to 6800 lbs. across the Rockies 6 times. Plan on taking many more trips across the Rockies and want the security of a new engine. Also interior and exterior still look good. The only rust is on the rocked panel in front of the passenger's side rear wheel. Best vehicle I've ever owned.  (y)

2006 Z71 w/ about 164,000.  A previous owner put lots of miles in a very short time (obviously highway).  The way the engine runs and idles so smooth, you would never know it had that many miles.  I put new shocks on it, and that's about all the suspension needed.  The engine needed new belts, tensioners, idler pulley, and front O2 sensors -- those are maintenance items to be expected.  I also installed new knock sensors and knock-sensor wiring (intake gasket while I was there), which is also pretty much a maintenance item for this engine design.  It's a great truck and a pleasure to drive!

03 WBH Z71 with 217000 miles on the clock. The only problem I had was knock sensors, and I need to figure out where my coolant is going, because its not in the oil and its not leaking. Anybody else have this problem?

^ If it's not in the oil and not leaking the only place it can be going is out the tailpipe.

Wait... What??? in the transmission? How can that happen? Are you messing with me? Umm. What ??? Ok, on a serious note; how can coolant get into the transmission and what are the symptoms (transmission) that this is happening?

The first thing I would look at closely would be the water pump.

You will not always see the leak on the ground if the pump shaft seals are going out.

Get under there and look closely in the area of the pump pulley and the weep hole on the pump.

Also, on both my EXT and my wife's CTS we began to notice the drive belt starting to make noise long before we saw any signs of coolant drips on the carport floor.

During the past year, I have had the water pump replaced on the CTS THREE TIMES.

The first two replacement pumps leaked and the last time we got a "Low Coolant" warning before we knew we had a problem.

The replacement pumps were not remans and were replaced under warranty, but still it is a pain.

I went with a different brand of pump this last go around and so far it appears to be holding.

So, if your pump shaft seals are leaking while you are driving around and the system is under the greatest pressure, you may not see any drips on the ground during the earliest time of the failure.

Only after it has gotten worse might you begin to see coolant on the floor.

Worth a look, I would think.

I'm up to 85k miles now. Been driving it a little more in the last year. I had the replace the transmission between Thanksgiving and New Year's eve. 3rd and 4th gave up the ghost without warning. It wasn't unexpected with the power level I have. I had it built with supposedly the best, latest and greatest frictions that will hold up better.
