Blackbird 6.0 LTZ said:I had a 2006 Hummer H3 Adventure with the 5 speed which I used for a lot of hunting, fishing, rafting and winter sports adventures up here in Maine. Loved the thing, but my only complaints were 1) a driver, his black lab, luggage, gear for whatever particular sport was in season and a cooler of beer filled the truck up 75%. Add a passenger and all of their gear and it was cramped quarters. 2) Even with the 5 speed and the inline-5, when you have a 4.56 rear, you will only get 18mpg on the highway MAX with 10 ply tires. 3) While I never had an issue with my engine, I think it secretly always wished it was a 4 cylinder turbo diesel. Probably would have saved the brand, too.
Anyway, about a year ago a good friend of my dad's came with him to Maine to do some ice fishing and he was driving a brand new LTZ Black Diamond. I told him I thought it was a sweet rig and he remarked: "Then you should come buy his older brother!". He still had his 2007 LTZ sitting in his driveway in Pennsylvania that he needed to keep through 2013 for tax reasons, but didn't want to miss the Avalanche boat before they were gone. I'd been contemplating the Hummer's replacement for while, and was looking at Suburbans because they have a V8 but would return the same if not better mileage than the hummer, I could still throw the dog in the back, and you could sleep in them. Hadn't even considered the Avalanche, but the only real difference is I'd have to build a box for the dog in the back seat opposed to letting him in the rear hatch. Can still fold the mid-gate down and sleep in it. Anyway, sealing the deal was the fact that the Av had the 6.0 Liter, which still returns better mileage than my 5 cylinder Hummer. Have sacrificed some of the places I can take it, and 10 ply tires, but I love the Av. Have seen the friend I bought it from since, and he's said he wants the 6.0 Liter back.
Bottom line: 2007 Avalanche LTZ 4WD, 6.0, 134,000- $14,750 in March 2014
