How to: 2007/2008 Full Time Daytime Running Lights (FT DRL)

Actually, it you want fogs on with low and high beams, then set it up just exactly like I have it.  The diode will allow you to turn on the Fogs with switch WITHOUT turning on the low beams.  Then the low beams will turn on the fogs.  And the quirk in the 2007+ is that the high beams turn on the low beams, which would then in turn turn on the fogs if you have the diode.

Just read the normal Full Time Fogs mod thread for 2003-6's by Vertabat. - it's the same (smaller) diode.  In this picture, it's the upper left wire - Red to Black wire.  Goes from the bottom left of the 3114 Relay to the top left of the 9831 relay.  Diode #5 in Vertabatts thread here.

Thanks for the help so far.  In the pictures it looks like your fog light relay is oriented 180 degrees opposite of mine.  Mine has the beveled edge toward the front of the truck.  Does that matter?  What pin number are you attached to?  Also, on the headlight relay, does the bottom left give you any voltage?  If so, under what condition?  Mine seemed to be no voltage unless the lights were off.

Got my lights the way I like them now.  For now I'm just doing the FTDRL.  I'm going to leave the fogs alone and just use them when I want.  Later on I might put HID bulbs in them and figure out how to have them come on with the switch but not disable when the brights are switched on.

I replaced my factory lights with the Spyder Halo plus LED lights with 6000K HID's in the low beams.  I also replaced the DRL's with cool white LED (48 LED).  I think they turned out good overall.

Looks really cool ... Did the Spyder Halos come with HIDs or normal bulbs? I have had aftermarket projector lights before and the light output was not good at all. How are they at night compaired to factory?

HID's, but only in the low beams.  They seem brighter than factory but the area they light up is a bit different.  I'm not convinced I have them 100% adjusted ideally and there is a difference between reflector and projector as far as beam coverage.

Wanted to make my 13 AV the same as the 03, went to Radio Shack to get the 276-1141 diodes and they were out, so I got the 276-1143's instead, still a 3amp diode but larger in size, worked like a charm and not much heat build up!  I just did the full time DRL's for now.

I did the Full Time DRL's also, used a heavy duty Diode out of a large 240W power supply :) It still gets hot, but its cool have FTDRL's - Thanks for the Mod!

Okie - I just returned a pair of Headlights with the same light arrangement as yours, same LEDs etc and had the Halos. - Your saying your Spyders do put out more light than factory? Cuz the ones I got looked identical to yours...I wonder if they used cheapo-projectors?

The projectors in them created a horrible pattern with about 50% less light and were nowhere near as good as the Mirimoto Minis in the headlights that Im now selling, so Im back to factory now and going to build a new set using the FX-R projectors and LED side markers, which is why Im selling the headlights I have...they are in very good condition, no bad scratches no cracks etc. For Sale: http://chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php/topic,136401.0.html - Asking

Here is a pic of the difference: (Left light is the one I returned, for obvious reasons. Right side is Factory..

Sweet.  Good going, Chavey.  That's one more mod to do on delivery weekend.

It looks like the drl's are quite a bit brighter than the parking lights.  Is there any way to make those parking lights brighter (different bulb)?
The DRL's are using the bright elements of the bulb. You can't make the running lights brighter because of the turn signal. but you can dim the DRL to match the running light.
Take the bulb and with a tiny screwdriver pry the four wires out at the topside if the bulb fixture, then flip them all over to the other side of the fixture and press them down on the housing. Replace the bulb in the socket and now it the same brightness as the running light.

I installed a 3 amp diode but it gets really hot. I was wondering if anybody knew if this is normal? It gets so hot it burns you when you touch it but it doesn't burn up. Idk if I installed it wrong or if it was normal to get that hot?
Thanks

Yep, mine'll burn u if you touch it.  But 5+ yrs and still no problems.

Must be normal, mine gets hot also.

I was into my fuse box to remove the "Fogs on low" mod (don't want to burn them up for nothing) when I noticed that the FTDRL diode was HOT!  Melting the plastic on the butt splice hot. ...and they were only on for a few seconds to test everything.

So after a trip to The Shack, it's cool as a cucumber. Each one is rated for 3 amps so my setup can handle 12 amps comfortably.

They come two to a pack, so why install one when you can install four at only twice the price?

EDIT:  Fixed the pic!

Okay, I'll admit that's a bit overkill, but I could not believe how hot the one got for being on only a few seconds.

I looked it up and the 3157 bulbs use about 2.1 amps each.  So that's 4.2 amps flowing through a single 3 amp diode.  Diodes are not resistors, they should not generate heat (at least not a significant amount of it).

AT A MINIMUM, use BOTH of the diodes in the pack!  Connect them in parallel with the lines facing the same way.

There's my $0.02.

I've been very disappointed with Radio Scrap over the last few years with their selection (or lack) of diodes and resistors.
Not to mention the quality of their product has dimiinished.

I have been stocking up on high quality diodes and resistors on Ebay for a while.
I keep quite a few on hand for LED sails, FTDRL, FT Fogs and other mods at GTG's

Using only the highest quality parts the first time is the best option. It always costs more to do it twice!!

If I buy in bulk, my 6 amp Schottky Diodes are about a buck each.

Agreed.  I don't do many electronic projects, but I wouldn't think of buying from RS if it were something important.  The last project I did (albeit, unsuccessfully) was re-cap a computer monitor.  Got 'em from Mouser.

This is a great mod!!

Got some questions

I have the led dome lights front and rear in my interior. I know the vanity lights I want to swap to led, but whats the part number?
