how to burn out??

The front end pushes quite a bit too in the rain. Nothing like a 6,000 lb. "power slide". :eek:
 
When I was about 16 we had a stretch of country road that was old, old really smooth asphalt and on a slight grade. We'd put it in gear (auto), let it start coasting backwards and then nail it. Of course with our stick shifts you could even rev it up while you're coasting backwards and then pop the clutch. We had my Buddy's Father's '58 Ford station wagon so full of tire smoke we couldn't breathe! Yeah, we didn't have to buy the tires yet. >:D

I had an 02 with all the lifts listed and 35's so there was no such joy for me smokin the tires but my 05 av will atleast spin them goin around corners but straight hole shots TM kills it. But I am puttin 6 inchses of lift and 35's on this weekend so even those days will be over soon. ;)

No tire spin on launch in my 04 K1500 with 3:73s and G80.
Had been wondering if this was due to TM or simply a power/weight issue. I was a little disappointed after taking a similarly equipped 04 F150 for a drive that had no problem spinning the tires. Both vehicles have similar HP ratings. It gives one the impression that GM is using TM to compensate for a weak drivetrain. Has me a little concerned.
 
There are several factors here:

1: Torque management is specifically designed to eliminate spinning tires and other abuses.

2: Some people have 2wd verses 4wd. This is the same reason some people have highway mileage readings in the 20's when 4wd's can't manage more than 17. 2wd's will have far more power off the line due to weight and less tq mgmnt due to the defeatable traction control.

3. Some people have 2500's- Tq mgmnt is not very useful to the gobs of power an 8.1 makes.

4: Some people say they can light them with a z-71 4wd 1500 but my guess is that 99/100 times that is around a corner or in the rain!!

5: Some of us drop in a 6.0 and add a turbo and buy stock in rubber companies, cause damn those tires won't stick in any circumstance!!! ;)

Just spray the tires with tire shine . . . apply and little brake and floor it. Work'd fine for me and other members at the gtg.
 
I've done doughnuts in my stock 4wd AV .  Then got reprimanded by my Supervisor because it was in my work parking lot before we started.  I was beening egged on!  >:D but as for power braking or burning out I have not achevied such without it being a lttle wet.  I take it easy most of the time unless i have some Punk kid in a sticker covered import with a big Fart CAN!!!  Then i give him a run for his money and usually put Big Frown on there face.
 
A very big difference is the size and structure of the tire's

When you got Off road tires, which are made for Mud conditions, the resistance on hard surfaces is a fraction of the resistance of a so called "winter tire".

On my Silverado I had Michelin 265/75/16" all terrain they where hard like a rock, after 60000 Ml it was hardly to see that they where used!! 

The mods I made where; catbag exhaust, Hypertech III and K&N replacement filter.
On dry road it was still drivable but a little rain I have to start in second or third gear other wise the car was dangerous !

When I was driving about  60 Mph on the highway and put the metal on the floor it started spinning up to 100 Mph !
And that was no funny anymore specially when you want to overtake other cars !

On my 2003 avalanch I have got rain/snow tires (much softer) I hardly have the problem anymore!

But for the guys who want to burnout !

Put more PSI into the tires ?
More pressure results in less resistance,
Remove your spare tire/wheel (less pressure on the rear wheels)

You can increase the torq ratio !
Differential ratio
Smaller tires
Higher engine compression
NOS injection
Less breathing resistance (airfilter/exhaust/headers) etc..

But remember more Torq at ;lower RPM makes a difference instead of more HP!

I watched your video - not what I was expecting.  What's that F*rd doing there and you let him out gun you.  How embarrassing....  :eek:  We want to see the smoke that would have came from the pictures you posted!!  (y)

Well actually, with the F*rd's long wheel base and possibly a diesel engine, it would have a little of an advantage.  A deisel truck would have a lot more torque and the long wheel base - well I'm not sure how to explain but maybe it's weight distribution???  Long wheel base vehicle always seem to perform, maneuver, haul, and drive smoother than shorter wheel base venicles.  Weight should be about the same though.

 
That Ford was a f-350 7.* 'chipped' turbo diesel 8200lbs
My AV was  stock at 6900lbs. we scaled our trucks. full of work tools and the like

I figured I could out drive him and well, power makes up for being sneaky. I did win 1 out of the 3 pulls. One pull he had Axel hop so bad it damn near twisted out. tragically its the real video of the marks being made.....

I had my revenge though, we had a mountain top job to do one week, he had to chain up all 4 wheels to make it up one stretch of trail up the mountain and do a 3 point hair pin turn at mid point.

Not me bro, 4 high I billy goat-ed up the hill and drifted the turn then met him at the top...every day! 2 foot of snow on ice with wind blown drifts....he chain up and I'd watch from inside my cab waiting for my turn at the hill....

I have the 3.73 gears and a stock 5.3 with a locking rear end.  It is hard for me to get more than a chirp on dry pavement.  On a wet corner I have to be careful but on straight dry pavement I will not be burning up the tires.  Now I have not tried a neutral drop or similar crazy antic.  I would prefer my truck to last at least another 100,000 miles. 

But while it does not burn rubber it has all the power I have ever needed even when pulling 3500 extra pounds.  I have never had a problem easily exceeding any of the speed limits around here so I am not complaining.
 
This is one more reason to never buy anything used :0:? Some people have no clue. My truck is an 04 GMC short box reg cab . It weighs 4100 and change full of gas.? ?3.73:1 locking rear with a 5300 .? If i snap the pedal down quick enough i can make the stock tires CHIRP ;D

My Avy would chirp the tires before I went with 20s, wasn't a horsepower issue, just tires protesting at having to move all that weight.
 
My $.02 :)

If you do not have the G80 locking diff, it will be easier to burn out, because only one wheel is getting the actual power once one of them breaks free.

If you do have the G80 locking diff, it will be harder to do a burn out, because as soon as one tire loses traction, the locking diff will engage, putting power down to both wheels again. This is why so many folks can only get a chirp.

That said, if you do have the G80 rear, don't intentionally do burnouts. If one of the wheels breaks free quickly enough, and spins up to a high speed before the locking diff can fully engage, (which can happen when you have the pedal mashed to the floor) you will very likely grenade the differential. The G80 is not designed for street racing, which is why you won't find it on a Corvette.
 
My magical ingredients for filling the air with white clouds of burnt rubber.
1. Dodge Magnum R/T with Magnaflow exhaust, Mopar air intake, Dyna Tech headers, 4.10 gears with Possi Track, and Thrash power programmer.
2. Push button on right side of dash labeled " Traction Controll"
3. Close windows and turn  A/C to recycle. ( Goto be able to breath )
4. Only need about 1/3 gas pedal
5. Spin and smoke to your hearts content.
6. Back up to the tree.
7. When the light hits green carfully nail it to get good hook up on the track.
8. At the end of the 1/4 mile shut down
9. Console the Mustang Cobra owner that its OK to get your ass whipped by a station wagon.

Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of burnouts but I do have a little fun occasionaly when it snows.  Otherwise I just like kicking it into four and marveling at those three magical marks...Z-7-1.

To comment on the whole engine reprograming in a stock truck though it's definitley true.  For instance my majas new Escalade has been lets say broken in properly  :wave:  So that combined with the weight difference makes that thing a rocket compared to the AVY.  But if you ever wanna really get the AV haulin a$$ and movin fast just put it in stealth mode >:D

you know deslect both side view mirrors and hit the adjustment button inwards.  Didn't know that the AV had a feature this cool but when I found out about "stealthMode" I almost $h17 my pants.  :B: :B: :B:

I don't think I saw one person even mention the traction control.? Turn it off-

Also - saying the diff in these trucks isn't built for burnouts is crazy.

Truck diffs have been used since the beginning of time as heavy duty parts for drag racing.? I have a Ford 9" rear in my pro street 1937 Coupe with a Chevy 454ci engine and turbo 400 trans.? The rear came from a truck as did the locker.? It has taken unimaginable abuse.

I would say that it is still crazy to try to do burnouts on dry pavement in a truck like ours.? Take it off road and have fun sliding around and spinning the tires where they were meant to spun!? But turn off the traction control!!!
 
Forgot to mention I have a friend who has an f250 super with the FX4 offroad package.  And even though it's a F@rd that bully dog chip certainly does create some pretty impressive 4wd burnouts.
