Be prepared this could be long.. So, as some of you know I had problems with my first tune, then had another one done on the dyno and street.  now that he is gone and I am at home, I drive the avy normal into town and realize that the shift pressures have been bumped up big time.  My 1-2 shift is going to break the trans no doubt!!  SO, here I am already about $550 into the tuning after a partial rebate for a botched one.. So I am looking around and I purchase a used HP tuners, I'll make this a bit shorter and just say after more than a week of email I get everything figured out with the last owner and HPT.  Now I have the serial cable version, licensed for any 05/06 Chev/GM V8 pickup!  Isn't that special.  Now I can for 199.98 purchase so that I can do any '03 Avy (on top of my origional cost) or I can pay 199 and upgrade to the new cable in pro-form then another 100 and be able to tune the trucks and one Avy.  Or I could just sell this one and purchase a new HPT set up.....  :E:

This is the deal, with the trans set up how it is I can't drive it.  I just ordered a 160 deg. T stat also, so that change will have to happen also, now my new tuning guy has offered a 100 tune up/hr. or he also now offers a hand held that he can ship to me with the changes made, I download and send it back to him for less $$.  Too many choices!  Any comments?

Thanks,

d

IMO.... Upgrade to the usb cable (if your laptop has usb). I do not think you will need the Pro version unless you need to tune with wide band o2 sensors (unless you are planning for FI).

Once you have HPT you can tune your AV unlimited times. By upgrading you could help others with 05/06 Chev/GM V8 pickup for a small fee  >:D

IMO, it's almost never a good deal to buy a used version of HPT.  The only exception would be if you got a USB version, it had only had one VIN licensed to it, and you get it at a discounted price.

I'm not sure what your best option is. ???

I'd sell the hptuners on performancetrucks.net and get most of your money back and then go and buy it yourself and i'd get the pro mvpi...and you will be set.
as for your shift problem, try pressing the tow/haul button, he may have not changed those pressures, I know it isn't stock, but sounds like it will be better than what you have to get you by.
Good luck!

Also, the HP tuners cost me 350......so I would be 550 new cable pro, then another 100 to do my rig....or like suggested sell it and repurchase.

Then you need to come to MCM and play with Trannyman, Boo, and me.
At the rate I'm going if I did that I would need trannyman to rebuild the trans and the rest of us to pull it and put it back!!!     By the way where is MCM ??????

It's in Nashville. You just might qualify for the farthest traveled award if you do. >:D

In reading what you typed, I would dump your tuner and the old HPTuner and go for the latest and greatest. That way you can address the transmission programming before you destroy it. Some tuners don't do much to the trans when they tune. As soon as I recover from my trip to Nashville, HPTuners is in my future as well.

Good luck

Mark

OK, here was my though on just upgrading (unless I am not reading the charts right) .....

any 05/06 Chev/GM V8 pickup

year 05  6 credits
year 06  6 credits
your 03 AV 2 credits

it would take 11 more credits to do unlimited Gen III trucks

Does anyone else in your family have a gen III truck? Then that's x more towards the unlimited gen III.

Oh well, either way you will  HPT

but that is 550 smacks :

but, it can be done over time
