Hypertech Performance Difference

I am considering purchasing a Hypertech in hopes of improving performance without damage to the AV.
???
What can I expect on a 0 to 60 acceleration after the performance has been modified. Please specify before and after times.

Dude I used the Hypertech Power Programmer The Truck Became a Animal!!! I put in the engine program i used the transmission shift program and i bumped my RPM up to 6000 and i went up 1 mph for the 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift leave the 3-4 shift alone!! I now rev all the way out and shift at 5900 rpm's and after the shift happens i drop right into the power band which is 5200 rpm for Hp Im telling you its worth the money

I have to agree. The best mod I have done on any vehicle... EVER!

Tuned to 87 octane
Shift firmness: Y
Speedo: 128
Rev Limiter: 6000
Shift 1-2: +3
Shift 2-3: +5
Shift 3-4: +7

Wakes it up is an understatement. I like getting on the freeway and hitting 75 in 2nd @5900-6000 RPMs. She screams like never before... >:D

WOW!! Scream wouldnt do it Justice Im afraid of winding it out so high for a shift like that However What Gears do you have?? I have the Z71 with 3.73's in it As the way i have it set up now, I can only grab about 50mph before the shift to second, Im also using stock tires

I have 3.73 gears in a 2003 AV. Is a 2003 as hot as the 2002? Hypertech technician indicated less gain with a 2003 than there was in 2002?

I have an 03 with 3.73's and love my Hypertech. i don't think it creates any more power, but it it gives you a nice little boost when your playing around. Keep in mind it "sleeps" during daily driving and only operates at WOT. So when you punch it , she drops a gear (or two) and goooeess. ;)

I don't think you have anything to worry about spooling the 5.3 or the 4L60E to 6000 RPM ... The motor will handle 6200 or so ... The tranny is rated at 6100 Max ... The factory set fuel cut on the cable throttle av's is 5940 ...

The 5.3 valvetrain will not allow power much over 4900-5,000 or so, but winding it up is not detrimental at all providing you are good with preventative maintenance and checks ...

FYI, I see 4.8 liter manuals running at the track shifting at 6200 or so ... The LS1 derivatives are really the strongest chevy small block in history ... IMHO ... The only thing I have heard of being an issue is hitting full boost or the bottle off the line... It tends to spin the rear mains due to the weight of the truck... But having 6 bolts and a deep skirt block, they will last much longer under the abuse than a pre '96 Vortec 350 ... !!!

Im Wondering what the programmer is really doing to my air/fuel mixture and spark advance!! However maybe someone can help me figure out why 285 bhp cant break the tires at full throttle start, My truck seems to fall flat on its face when I mash it and it only starts spooling up when I hit 3000 rpm's

The Av stills only has a nodular iron crank rather than the stronger steel forging. Bore to stroke ratio and con rod length aren't the most conducive to hi revving either. The little 5.3L is designed for torque and driveability. For Chevys most bullet-proof, hi-revving mouse motor, make mine a steel crank 302. Not a good match with a 6000# Avalanche, but goes nicely in a light weight.

Xhausted, One reason they will not break the tires is that the advertised HP of 285, really breaks down to about 205 at the rear wheels. I have tried braking it and still not getting them spinning. I have the HPP3, the flowmaster, air intake and a couple of other items and I just don't think it is going to do it without the supercharger punching in...
Main one, I have the 2-3 shift set at 11 and i am shifting into 3rd right at 93. It shifts hard and crisp at that point. I wasn't watching the gps the few times that i had it shut down on me at 128 mph to see where the 3-4 shift was, just after it shut down did i look at the GPS........ I was just holding on enjoying the scenerey ;D My 3-4 shift is set at 11 also.
Best guess would be around 120 because it was not long after shifting that it shut down. ? ? ? .02 cents worth.

I recently emailed Hypertech with the same question. ?Here's the response I got:

GM has different computer calibrations each year and that is the reasoning for 2 part numbers. For the 2002 model we gained 7hp and 19tq using the 87 setting, 9hp and 27tq using the 93 setting. For the 2003 model we gained 8hp and 9tq using the 87 setting and 8hp and 12tq using the 93 setting. Thanks

Jim

Based on the response, I'm not sure whether it is worthwhile for me to get the HPP3. ?I'm really more interested in changing the shift points etc. and am doing some research to see if there are other products that only address those issues for less $$ than Hypertech. ?If not, I guess the HPP3 is the only way to go.

You can't spin the tires because of a computer program called Torque management. Up to about 10mph the computer limits power to only what is needed to get the job done. It won't allow you to spin the tires, do a brake stand, or rock from D to R under hard throttle.

GM figures that the sudden application of power will break things in a heavy truck. It sucks but it's there. It even chokes the power from my supercharger.

I have corsa exhaust , aem brute force , jba titanium ceramic coated cat4ward headers, HPP3.

All i can say is I RIP ricers everyday, most nissans and acuras and hondas dont have turbos so all they got is a the normal mods exhaust headers etc. but they are extremely quick.

I beat mustangs f150s any dodge truck thus far.

i want to race a lightening but havent had the chance. HPP3 is a good choice but you need more mods to really feel the difference.....PLUS i am on 22" x 9.5" MOMO Storm rims with 305 45 22 proxies s/ts and the AV kicks.
>:D

Everything sounded good up to the lightning part....He would get you by a?second or so in the quarter!

As Clint Eastwood once said: "Sometimes a man has to know his own limitations"

Good Day...Scott

i never said i would beat a lightening but i do want to race one >:D

but dont worry once i finish everything on the truck...there wont be much of ford frightenings anymore. LOL

I'm just curious about sumpin...I have the HPIII and enabled the shift firmness setting. This affects normal driving and also WOT. I'm wondering if this holds true for tow/haul mode. It would seem so from just the feeling of the shifts, but since tow/haul mode isn't affected by the HPIII shift settings I'm not quit sure. What you guys thank?

It supposedly does nothing to the tranny cal in T/H, but it sure seems to me that it increases the firmness a little ...

This came from a GM area rep, so I don't admit responsibility for the info, but according to him the new chevy trucks were partially exempted from the noise pass-by test certification as T/H is considered "partial special circumstance usage" or something along those lines ... That's why apparently some trucks in early '99 had notation in the owners manual that running in T/H with no load may not be a good idea for the longevity of the vehicle...

Hell I drive mine everywhere in T/H unless I'm running full throttle from a stop to 75 or so and want the Hypertech increased shift points ...

Oh yeah... About the Lightning thing ... Butch beats Lightnings all the time with his 1500 Z71 ... LOL ... Ask him to share a Lightning kill story ... >:D

That's an ever so slightly different story though... :p

I know, I know... I was just trying to draw out the dis-believers for Butch's lunch tomorrow... Hehe

Would not racing a lightning, that you know is going to beat you, be like walking up to the biggest, meanest biker in the bar and punching him right in the mouth. You kinda already know what the end result is going to be: You go home with the crud beaten out of ya, and he had a hell of a good time......
