I Got A Quick Question!

I don't know the answer. My aging memory recalls a similar question maybe two weeks ago.

? will the Escalade sail panels fit on the AV with no problems inteferring with the side compartment doors?
Well, I was going to point you to this topic: EXT third brake light as there was quite some discussion about replacing Av sail panels with EXT parts. I figured the guy who did it would probably be able to help you out.

Then I read the topic, and I realize it was you who did all that work with the EXT brake light. :-[

Umm... I guess that link won't help you much, after all.

Other than that, I don't really remember this being discussed before. Hopefully, someone will know?

Another thought... you've already spent so much time, effort, and money on the light, and now the sail panels... why not just replace the side compartment doors and have everything match? That way you don't have to worry about texture differences, and any color match discrepancy will be less obvious.

Of course, it's easy for me to say this, since it isn't my money. :cautious:

i appreciate the quick responses. i was trying to catch an ebay auction before it ended. someone had a buy now price of $300 bucks for all four panels to complete my mod. seeing as how my inside man priced them at approximately $235 a piece ( this is an estimate. i do not remember the exact quote. then paint). so you can see why i was so interested. no bid had been placed at 40 minutes out from the end of the auction. since i only got answers from people who were not sure i decided to find out for myself.
i set out to the Cadi dealer with a tape measure. i took a measurement of the AV before i left home. it was aproximately 25-26in. from front of the sail panel to the trailing edge that is just behind the cargo box lid. the EXT measured a little. i could not get into the area under the cargo box lid since it was locked. i came up with a measurement somewhere between 26-27in. at this point. there was maybe another 1-2in. i could not get to. so this lead me to believe that the panels would not work for me unless i got the cargo box lids as well. some other time i guess.
i figured i would save the money for something else in the future. then as i was leaving the dealership i saw my old buddy. MR. SNAP-ON MAN. of course i went on the truck and came off with $500 worth of tools. for all those who know about Snap-On know that ain't much.
well, i think i will take a month or two break from mods. maybe even three. i need to start saving for the Spring/Summer fling with the relatives. thanx for your input guys. :B:

I find it hard to believe they would actually be a different size. That just wouldn't make sense! But then, neither does putting the Silverado front end on an Av.

? believe it or not i found that they are a different size. ?you must realize that my measurements on the EXT were not as precise due to the fact i could not open the storage bin lid.
? if you look at my past postings, on the EXT center sail panel/third brakelight mod, you will see that i found the EXT center panel does not fit snug over the AV side sail panels. ?i had to put double sided tape on the left and right corners on the roof to prevent them from sticking up. ?that was an easy fix. ?the next thing was the plastic fasteners that secure the bottom edge of the panel to the truck. ?when i pulled them from the AV panel i put them into the EXT panel. ?i quickly found that the fasteners no longer lineup with the holes. ?but, the EXT panel has double-sided tape on the far bottom corners. ?so i used the tapse to hold it in place at the bottom.
? you will also notice on the that there is one screw on the left bottom corner, and one on the right. ?well, the EXT panel has no holes to allow the screws to be used. ?the tape seems to suffice though. ?have not had a problem yet.
? the last thing is when you are all done taping, screwing, connecting, etc.... ?the damn panel has a big gap on the left and right bottom where it meets the left and right side of the sail panels. ?so i used the dark grey packing from the lightbar box to fabricate some gap fillers. ?i cut them at the proper angle, and put double-sided tape on them. ?i then removed the panel to insert the gap fillers. ?put everything back in place. ?it actually looks okay. ?if i look really hard i can tell i had to be creative there. ?no one else has noticed it until i pointed it out.
? i just thought i could get the rest of the sail panel assembly to have the complete EXT look. ?i guess it just was not meant to be. ?just yet anyway. >:D

Not trying to start trouble but why didn't you just buy an EXT to start with? Hey it's cool what you are doing to the AV but just my opinion . . . which I know doesn't matter to anyone.

all questions arre welcome. no offense taken. to answer your question i do not like the front-end on the EXT. not one bit when compared to the AV. i do however like some of the other feartures. if you look at my sig you will see all the things i like. there is not much more i can do in the way of EXT parts now. oh yeah, the price of the AV compared to the EXT had something to do with it to.

Oh well that's cool . . . I might myself get the exterior door handles from the Escalade. I know there's a member out there spending the money to get his AV converted into an EXT but I can't remember his name . . . I saw him selling AV parts on Ebay. I guess that's the person I should be telling to just go out and buy an EXT >:D

? you might be referring to BigRed_Z71. ?he has been redoing his AV for some months now. ?i can't wait to see the finished product. you might recall he wrecked his AV. when he was having it repaired he decided to go with the EXT look.
