First off, no one was hurt. ?:)

I was at a stop sign with a small car in front of me. ?The car pulled forward to turn left and then decided to stop and I hit them on the back right tail light on their car. ?We pulled into a parking lot and compared the damaged. ?My AV broke the tail light on their car and on my AV front bumper are some surface scratches and one or two cuts. ?Part of the cladding is ripped near the fog light but not real noticable. ?No paint damage but the fog light now feels loose.

I wonder how much the bumper cladding would cost to replace or do you think I can repair the cladding? ?If it can be repaired, anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry to hear about the accident but glad no one was hurt. Are you sure this wasn't just an excuse to test your 4-Lo setting in an attempt to drive over another car?

;D

The Av...is fixable...a human being..well maybe...glad to hear that nobody was injured. :cautious:

Glad nobody was hurt - you might want to check out the cost for the bumper from your dealer - at least get the part # and check out gmpartsdirect.com - may not be that much.

There was an earlier post that went into the problems of "fixing" the cladding - didn't sound like fun. ;D

I have a cut in my rear bumper cover (that's what they call the cladding over the metal). The dealer got me a new one, that I have to install for $250. The insurance adjuster quoted $1100....Do the math....I got lots of extra to play with (pay bills).

Slad no one was hurt. Bet your pride is injured though because your Av is damaged.

Please keep us up to speed on how difficult the cladding (bumper cover) is to install. It it held by clips or bolts? Anyway, it would be interesting to hear about a cladding replacement.

aww, that $ucks... :(

samething happened to me with my DAD's nissan pickup. exactly, too!!! hopefully, the damage doesnt place too much of a dent in the wallet... ;)

Sorry to hear about it, glad no one was hurt. At least its not painted I'm sure it would look a lot worse. Hopefully not to many $$$.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I wonder aside from the bumpers who much the cladding on the sides cost. If you think about it. I would rather have scratched plastic then scratched paint. I imagine that the cost to replace the plastic would be considerably cheaper than a new paint job

Not to mention the problems of color matching, long term care, getting the clear coat back on defect free, blending and tinting, getting the lay of the metallic flake right.

Viva la Avalanche and plastic cladding!

Glad to hear everyone is OK. I bet the owners of the car, are now telling their friends how they were visciously assaulted by an SUV.

Is it safe to assume that the airbags did not deploy due to the low speed impact? Does anybody know at what speed collisions air bags are activated? Is it based on the impact force or the speed of the Av or both?

Air bags deploy when a certain amount of force is registered by the sensor. In many cases, the sensors aren't in the region of the accident, and therefore have no idea that anything has happened.

BlackZ71 - thats a great find - everything you need to field strip the beast and put it back together - outstanding! ;D

The airbags did not deploy. It was only a 2-4 mph bump.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I will keep you updated on when and how I fix the damage to my bumper cladding.

I think I remember reading somewhere that airbags deploy at when hit at speeds greater than 5mph...

I don't really know if this would be standard for all vehicles..
