What a stupid mistake that was. I decided to take my son for a haircut cause I needed one too. Well there were no spots available to park. I tell my wife to sit in the truck and wait for a spot and when one opens, take it. well she was out there for 30 minutes and got annoyed so she decides to park at a hydrant. (STUPID)
She starts backing up and I was watching her do it but I was too far from her for her to hear me. She cut the wheel, climbs the curb, and guess what behind her? The hydrant! :8: :8: :8: ?
Blocking the hydrant are 2 poles in the cement ans she skims one of them right under the foot hole on the bumper. If she would have been a pubic hair closer, she would have done some damage. The one scratch came out but licking my finger and rubbing it out, but the other I had to take out a tiny torch that I have and heat it up. It mostly came out but you can hardly see it now. :cautious: ?I yelled at her and told her from now on she's NOT aloud to touch my truck.

I think I'm gonna catch alot of heat for this post.

I can understand that you are upset. Maybe even trammatized having to helplessly watch the event. Not all women are bad drivers. Not all men are good grivers. Instead of banning her from playing with your toys. Take the time to show her how to manuveur it carefully.

Heck, if I am backing the AV in to a tight parking space and there is a little ricers right behind me. I will not hesitate to ask her to spot for me. Saves time, money (in repairs), and as an added bonus: you can quickly park so that your rear bumper is literally over whatever part of their ricers is sticking into your parking space or within an inch of thier bumper. >:D

My Wife used to take my tahoe and called me at 6am one morning and said he had alittle accident. She was pulling out of a parking spot and smacked a parked car with the rear quater panel of the truck. $700 damage to the tahoe. Leasons learned, She doesn't drive the AV very often! Then again I don't think it's a women thing just inexperance with such a large vehicle..

I can't let his one go by withour SOME kind of comment! You can't stereo type all women into being bad drivers. I have NEVER caused an accident or bumped/scrapped/wrecked another car. I think you have to teach her how to drive such a big truck. I admit, I was hesitant to drive the AV at first, but now that I know what the boundries are on it, I think I could park it on a dime! Take her to an empty lot on some Sunday evening when the stores are closed and let her get a feel for it. Only with practice and experience will she be comfortable driving it.
After a comment like that, I don't think she would want to play with the toys between your legs either! >:D

ouch...that must of hurt...but then again he could have expected that one...the secret is to not let any one else drive your truck...i let someone drive my ava on a long trip and it cost us over an hr b/c he missed a turn and there just happened to be an accident before the next exit...learned my lesson...at least we weren't involved in the accident

Oh I never said she was a bad driver. She hops in the Av and floors it. We had a Tahoe before the Av and she handled it without a problem. She's a great driver. When we go on a long trip and I'm beat, I let her drive and I can honestly fall asleep. She told me that she didn't see it and that's what pisses me off. to tell you the truth, she actually parks better than I do at times.

Heck, if I am backing the AV in to a tight parking space and there is a little ricers right behind me. I will not hesitate to ask her to spot for me.

I've done that plenty of times, but the best is when it's raining and I take my time. I keep asking her are you sure it gonna fit? LOL

Ouch!! :D:

I had sharp stomach pains just redaing that!

Hey dude some lessons are just plain old hard. I least it wasn't expensive.

I trusted my wife to drive my AV just once, and that was one block up the street to take my kids to the school bus stop. I told her to go around the entire house lined rotary (about 1/4 mile), partly to show off but mostly to avoid making a 18 point turn, and risking damage.

I feel fortunate. My wife does not like driving the AV. In fact she tells me that she fears it. Yeah - her and all non-Chevrolet truck owners.

>:D >:D >:D >:D

You know since I bought the thing in May 2002, I still get people staring at the AV.

 :B:

Hey guys,

My wife drives my AV to work and from work to home, Monday to Friday. I drive our 97 Cavalier (better on gas). She is a very good driver. As a matter of fact, a lot of guys envy how she drives. Don't lose faith in your wife's driving guys!!!

Glad to hear you could get rid of the damage...

Manny,

I'll bet most of the pain came from watching it and not being able to do anything about it. Did it all go by in slow motion, like in the movies?

While she is feeling so bad about it (I assume she is) now is the time to hit her up for the $1500 it will take to get a decent reversing camera installed (with additional screens of course). ;)

I am with MNBLACKAV its not about woman its a experiance thing. My wife drives a Honda. She is not scared to drive the Av but thinks its to big. I dont think it could ever be to big. Well if you decide to let her drive it again make sure its on the open road and forward gears only.

Then it's not your Av, it's her Av. >:D

Understand that there are some great women drivers out there and some not so great, same for men. I was just pissed that she didn't notice that she screwed up. She got my Av right now and I fully trust her and just like what Skidd said,

That what it's all about. Now I get to buy a new little toy for my Av. I just have to figure out what.

How about a bumper guard Manny that would be a good NEW TOY for the Av

Then I could run your ugly A$$ over LOL >:D

OK, I have to share this story. One time when I was on a business trip in England and my wife went with me she wanted to go to the west end of London to do some shopping. So she road with me in the rental car (yes I'm a brave soul) and her plan was to take the car and drive to do some shopping.

When I got out of the meeting she was there waiting for me furious (naturally this was all my fault). Seems the whole right hand drive thing didn't go to well and she caved in the entire left side of the rental car as well as ripping off the side view mirror. It was a brand new Nissan, similar to an Infiniti Q20. Avis actually was rather gracious when we returned the car - of course I never reported to my employer that she was driving during the mishap.

Ugh!

Story number two. When I was in college my girlfriend at the time took my '87 Tempo into town to pick up some stuff for a party. On the road to my fathers house there is a really bad turn where there are a lot of accidents, all speed related. I told her to be real careful because the turn on the narrow forested road gets real tight.

Well when the car returns it looks like an US Army vehicle ready for forest duty. It has branches sticking out of the grille and on the roof and it is mountain pin stripped from stem to stern on both sides. The sunroof, which was open is broken because a branch got between it and the rear latch ripping it off. Yup, you guessed it - went to fast around the turn and her passenger said she went 50 to 75 feet into the woods. Miraculously she never hit any of the big oaks out there and was able to back the car out. Honestly I handled this situation very badly, yelled at her. In the end the damage was minimal (the sunroof was about it) and I was able to buff out most of the scratches. This was back in the good old days before we got water based auto paint.

SicilianosAvy,

Well, I like to think it is my AV as does my wife, she thinks it is hers.

It all comes down to the ownership that has my name on it. ?>:D If I did not have to drive as far as I do to work, believe me she would get the car!!!

You can see why we fight on weekends as to who gets to drive the AV.

I should have mentioned that before my wife started driving the AV, she had to complete my driver's test!!

Glad you are getting a toy out of your wife's mishap.
