Just had a close call. I was going onto a ramp to get on the freeway. There was back up and I almost got intimate with an Explorer. Quick jab on the brakes and a turn of the wheel, I was right on the side of him. Not a scratch. Wonderful agility for a 6000+ lb monster! I was worried about the mushy brakes and the numb steering until today.

What was it that Car and Driver said. "light on it's feet for a fat kid"

Funny, that's what my high school baseball coach said, too.

I've had a couple of close calls in the AV, and after coming from a much lighter truck, I was thrilled with how the Avalanche handled. I know there have been some complaints about both the braking and the steering, but I think those fall more into the "personal preference" category then the "problem with the vehicle" category. :B:

OK, story time.
Gather round children, gather round.

I'd had the AV for about two or three weeks. My wife is waiting tables at Denny's and I'm up there harrassing all of the other waitresses and such. She's waiting on this couple and they ask her to call a cab for them. She tells the manager and he makes the call. While on the phone, he asks, "What's the name and where are you going?" The lady says, Jennifer and that they were going to the Radisson. I figure that since it's right up the road that it will give me an opportunity to show off my new baby. So I offered them a ride and we head up on the highway. We get to talking and I almost missed the offramp. I swerved over just in time and the guy says "and it handles good too." I had my classic country cd in and explained that I have an old soul because I usually prefer older music. When we stopped at the hotel he asked me if I liked the Bellamy Brothers. I said yeah, thay were good. Then he asked me if I'd like to go to the show that night. I said sure and he said that he would leave my name at the door and I could go right in. I went back to the restaurant and asked my wife if she wanted to go to the concert because I had free tickets. She said "Who were they?" I didn't ask. I just figured that they were with the band. She looked at the credit card receipt and it was signed "Howard Bellamy"

I'll never complain about the way this truck handles or brakes. I'ts kept me out of the hospital a number of times. If I did get in a collision, I wouldn't want be in anything else! (y) (y)
