I Modded Today. Big Time.

Chazj....you are a lucky man. I think your AV is awesome. Hope you didn't have to justify your purchase of the 20s to anyone. I got in trouble for spending 5 hours detailing mine. It was only 5 hours....? My wife just doesn't understand AV fever...I think I have a terminal case.

I hate to be the lone dissenting opinion, but I don't get it. Why spend the money for a 4WD vehicle, and then reduce your ground clearance and put on expensive tires that couldn't roll over a good sized pebble without destroying themselves and the even more expensive rims they are mounted on?

Maybe I am showing my age or my overly practical nature. I have never really understood dropping anything, but most of all a 4WD.

I got the wheels and tires from www.customwheel.com.

If anyone is interested, they were ?$2780.00  delivered to my door ready for mounting.

If anyone has any info on the drop kit, I'd be interested in hearing it. Price, how it will changed my ride, etc.

You guys and gals have convinced me; I'm ready to drop it.

rager24, I'm glad you like your new wheels.

If you are interested in the drop kit do a search for djm. They are the ones that make the kit specific for the Av. Also any copy of Truckin' magaizine will have ads for it.

If you are interested in a far less expensive mod, consider blacking out the 'cross bar' in the front grille with black vinyl.

Good luck

It's fine to have a different opinion and I totally accept that.

I've had a lifted Toyota and 2 lifted Dodge Rams.

I'll probably never take my AV off road and I just wanted to do something a little different with this truck.

I guess what it all boils down to, is that a lot of people lift their 4 wheel drive trucks; I just want to be a little different.

sparky,

I checked out that picture of your blacked out cross bar a few days ago. I just figured you had painted it.

That's an awesome mod.

Digitaldiver, As to why to do this. Well some of it is practical and some just plain looks. I want a 4 wheel drive vechile for the snow, but I have no intention of going into the woods to see if I can get stuck or not. To each his or her own.
I have a bad leg that will be operated on shortly and lowering the av made it much easier for me to get in and out of. Easier than any car as there is no wheel well to deal with, just straight in and straight out.
THe rear visability is greatly improved with the drop.
And after all that I love the look.
Your statement

and put on expensive tires that couldn't roll over a good sized pebble without destroying themselves and the even more expensive rims they are mounted on

is a little over the top. Am I more careful about raod craters and overly raised speed bumps? Yes. But I would with just about any vechile. I drive gravel roads as required but like most people with 4X4's I am on pavement most of the time.

I don't understand those huge lift kits, but if it is what someone likes, go for it.
Making a vechile fit your likes is a big part of the fun, and I'm likely older than you ;)

Nope, used vinyl. I was afraid that paint would chip and then you are left with a nasty sanding job.
I had the guys at the local trim shop apply it with heat. So far so good. But even if it peels some I can easily take it off with heat and leave it or do over.

I think the whole thing cost me about $40

I don't get those any more than I do the drops (wellll... maybe a little). Sorry, like you and Chaz both said, "To each his own..." this isn't for me.

Now your cladding paint job is a whole 'nuther story. Great look. How's it holding up? Have heard of problems with painted cladding, but would love to do it if I can get it right.
