Hi, all,,, I FINALLY OWN AN AVALANCHE!! But here is the problem... the original owner ordered it with the soft tonneau cover, and I just bought a 3-piece hard cover, and now I need the 8 steel brackets (strikers) that are attached to the bed that the levers on the covers hook into to hold the sections down to the truck... they cost $40 apiece (!) from the dealer, and I haven't been able to locate any in any junkyards... where can I get these 8 clips FOR A WHOLE LOT LESS (USED)? (I am only assuming that my bedrails are already set up for the 8 brackets and the hard cover).
THANKS TO ALL FOR ANY ADVICE AND EDUCATION ON THIS TOPIC!!
BIG BAD RED Z71!!

Congrats and Welcome to the club!

I can't find jack for Avy parts at the wreckers around here. However, there are lots of wreckers parting Avys out on eBay. I bought my center seat (for the center seat/console swap out mod) from an LKQ auction. No issues for me.

I see them selling the covers all the time. So, I would think you could email them to see if they would sell the brackets - if they sold the covers, they certainly wouldn't need the brackets, eh? ;)

One of their stores is:

LKQ Online Midwest

Good luck! (That soft cover is rare...I've only seen one on an Avy before.)

Regards,

-Joe

Try one of our site sponser dealers I got my strickers at Brasington Cadillac in FL I paid like $16 each.

I have dealt with both of our Dealer Site Sponsors with great results. A package from DeLillo showed at the house today and I expect another from VanDevere late next week.

Give either Jeff at DeLillo in California a call or if your back east, try Dal at VanDevere. Both these guys will sell to CAFCNA members at 10% over cost plus shipping.

VanDevere is also a Caddy & GMC dealer if you are looking for Denali or Escalade stuff.

I also have a soft cover. At the time I bought my '02 AV, my dealer only had them with the soft one's. I have heard that the whole setup (frame)is different for the hard covers. I think there is more to it than just the strikers. That's the reason I haven't done the conversion. It would be over $1,000 for everything new. Has anyone out there done the conversion and how much did it cost?

I did this conversion on my 02, all you need is the 3 panels and the 8 strickers.

The "rails" for the hard panels are part of the truck, all you need are the strikers, panels, and bolts. The soft cover has a seperate rail that bolts to the existing rail for the hard panels. I bought the kit, it was $1000.

;D
THANKS TO ALL WHO REPLIED!! And thanks to the member who told me HOW to reply to this!
Anyway, thanks, and please tell me how to get the contact info for the "site sponsors" that some of you mentioned in the replies. Don't shoot me, I just don't know where the info is..? You all have some sweet AVALANCHES, and this is a dream come true for me to actually OWN one, finally. It is better than driving my old Grand National, Monte Ss, 95 and 96 Impala SS's, GTA, and everything else I have ever owned.
I am also relieved to find that all I need are the bed covers and the 8 strikers... So now if I can just get the stikers "cheap"...
thanks!!!!!!!!!
kev ;)

Thanks for the info!!! Little did I know I had the hard cover "rails" the whole time. Time to go shopping for some good used covers and for some strikers.

Just look at the ads changing on the lefthand side of page (you have to have your firewall/pop blocker adjusted to view them).

For both, mention CAFCNA and get 10% over cost plus shipping:

Van Devere: Dal Slaburgh (800) 362-9494 Ext 501 (Ohio)

De Lillo: Jeff Friley (714) 847-6087 (California)

Well.. first off, thanks for all of you that replied to my post when I was looking for the 8 bed rail strikers that hold the 3-piece hard cover on. You gave me the 2 sponsor names and phone numbers, and I checked with them, and they want

$28 a piece for them. That's still gonna be $240  for the strikers, and the dealers also want $2.25 for each  of the 16 bolts (2 for each striker) , so that's another $35 for the bolts = $275 plus tax and shipping from California....WOW,, anyone have these laying around in the back yard?? Thanks, All,,,, I love this forum already, and I am only an infant...

Does anyone here know the wrench size for the bed panel strikers or could I remove them with a socket I just dont want to go to the wrecking yard with my whole tool box thanks in advance

I finally did the hard tonneau conversion it ended up costing me 80 bucks which I thought was a hell of a deal with post pictures if I ever figure out how to upload em

You need a few more posts before the spam filters will allow you to post pictures. Looking forward to seeing them.
