Hey whats up people? well have you ever just woken up and wanted something for the car well today i woke up and decided i needed a train horn i dont care if there illegal cause its worth the risk. well I was just wondering if anyone else has thought about or done this mod to there Avalanche right nowi have a pair of air horns but there pretty wimpy cause ive heard them on my friends car. I still havent installed them because i might sell them and upgrade for some better ones please any info would be appreciated. thanks

At one time on a previous vehicle I had a set of Hella Air Horns. I thought they were very loud. I would check eBay for something like that. Or check your local junk yard.

As a matter of fact here you go:

eBay: Train Horns

OH YEAH!!!!!!! I would love to have these in Houston Traffic ;D Man....I gotta say it again ...I would love to have those on my AVY. I hate when people cut me off and with a set like that ...Gotta love it!

BigBlackAv you gotta let me know if you get some and then send me info on how you hooked them up.

Those are some nice horns. I have always wanted to mount a set of loud auxiliary
horns in my trucks. I have a Grover emergency horn (fire truck horn) mounted
on my boat. It is great when I am out in the fog or when some sailboter
wants to prove to me he has the right of way.

but having to drive on 287 in new jersey I'm sure my fingers will become
very sore working the button

Those things are wicked huge!

I want to get a nice set of horns but I don't want to have to put them on top of my truck, not my kind of thing. But goo luck with those horns. (y)

I know that there s a site that has train horns that you can listen to, I think the loudest is 152DB ;D, which will make those crazy people sh!t their pants. >:D

http://www.trainweb.org/mdamtrak199/horns.html

This site has all the AmTrak Horns.

http://www.wolo-mfg.com/truck.htm

This site has the 152DB Loco Horn. It is INSANE! >:D
Seriously check it out. (y)

Ok those horns are wicked. I couldn't imagine how loud they are in person. Are they legal? Is there a decibel limit to how loud a horn can be?

I want to install under my car I dont care so much as to show them off to everyone on how pretty they look i just want to scare this poop out them lol.

If anyone else is interested in spending the cash let me know and maybe we can set up a group buy or something so we dont have to pay full price on them. well let me know if your interested...

BBAV03, which horns are you planning on getting?

I just keep replaying the clip of those Loco horns and I love them. If those are the ones I would be willing to get in on a Group buy.

Mod fever!! Now it's horns...
These guys have a train "142 to 152 dB" Quad unit also.

I have a friend who mounted one to his chevy 1 ton, reg cab, short bed truck. (I think he may have shortened the bed himself, cool truck.) It was a Nathan 5 Chime which is the same horn Amtrak used on there EMD F40PH's. (Sorry I'm a bit of a train nerd. That is the loco that Amtrak used before their current loco's.) He mounted it underneath the bed where the spare tire would be. Now for the bad part. A railroad air horn uses a fair volume of air to operate. He installed an air tank in the bed of the truck to supply the air thirsty horn. (I would guess about 20 gal) Then to charge the tank he mounted a compressor to one of the power take offs on the engine. It works great!

I funny story. My friend and I where involved in a local model railroad club together. After a train meet our group had loaded up our stuff and where headed back to our storage unit. This was on a Sunday evening and the streets were fairly empty. We were in a group of five vehicles with my friend in the middle towing a trailer. I was right behind him. At an intersection some jerk pulled out between my friend and myself and started to tailgate him. A short distance up the road was a rarely used railroad crossing. Just before my friend went over the tracks he layed on the train horn. The poor fool tailgating him instantly slammed on his brakes and pulled into the left turn lane, nearly loosing control of his car, and stopped just before the tracks. >:D The rest of our group drove on by. I think the jerk messed himself. >:D

Man, now this something to think about... Can't imagine the looks on peoples faces when they heard a train horn right on their tail . There would be a lot of soiled pants I'm sure!! This may have to go on the mod "to do list".

BigBlack there are a couple of members that have some sweet monster horns, Manny has them, he had posted a thread about them also Ciajnik and last but not least ME the only thing is that mine don't sound, they are sitting in my shop (to lazy for the install), but when I connect them you will tend to run for cover. see if you find a local truck shop. I just want to use a different compresor, mine has an oil filler cup that you have to maintain and keep in a certain position. Come on you can do it.

New To Avalanche.
Just picked up my first Avalanche last night (2004 Z66)
I just bought a new 5 Chime Train Horn (5KLA) and was planning to sell my old 3 Chime (Prime 920) setup soon. I have it in the bed
of my 84 BB Dually mounted to a JetTraxx jet ski rack.
Because of the way its setup I was hoping to sell the rack and horn
as a package deal to get my money back out of it.
Second choice is to sell the Box and Horn together.
Last choice is to sell the Horn and Junk the box.

The horn is concealed in a box and rises out it for
SHOW and BLOW.
Of cource it puts itself away for Duck and Run.
I have attached a picture, I also have an .avi movie and wav files
but they are to large to post here.

The more I look at these, the more interested I am. Has anyone ever dealt with hornblasters.com before?
Plenty of room under my hood for the horns, but where would can you mount the air tank (besides inside the bed)?

cudaowner
you can mount the tank underneath against the frame, with a little ingenuity you should be able to come up with a good spot

I am thinking while following this guy, you are NOT going to tailgate >:D

I am thinking that there has gotta be enough pressure from those horns to shatter anyones windshield and make them swerve off the road.
Upside is if you are ever being chased by the staties, you can use 'em as a deterent. >:D

I definitely would not tailgate that guy, but would enjoy seeing what happens.

Here is a pic of my horn. It's not as powerful as those other horns are but it gets the job done FOR NOW. When I get WBH I'm gonna get a very powerful horn and make people mess themselves.

This is what I want:
