Just got off the GM buypower site. I was trying to build my Avalanche so I could get feedback from local dealers. HELP!!! These package deals are confusing me. Is there an option for power seat on the passenger side or is it only driver's side? On the outside mirrors, are the camper style mirrors auto dimming on the driver's side? Do they also have the power fold function or just extend? Why is it that when I chose the very cheapest base vehicle and then go to color options the sunburst orange is not on there? Does the locking differential have any effect on towing? One salesman told me it is bad to have locking diff if you are going to tow.?? What is up with the radio choices-which one is better? (not talking about the XM)
I know this is long, but the wording on some of this stuff is confusing and I don't want to mess this up and get a truck without something on it that I really wanted.
Thanks! ??? :E:

The locking diff should have no effect on towing. I have one and tow often. Sounds like the dealer is trying to sell one he already has in stock.

As far as GM buy power. That site is not run by GM, they use an outside contractor. Thats why the information is not always up to date. It is helpful when choosing options. Visit dealer lots and look at stickers to get the option codes that you want.

I always hesitate to offer my opinion to others because then you are buying on my opinion and not yours. It's your money so your opinion is the one that counts.

I know it is frustrating, but it is still fun.

Good Luck :B:

I suggest you take more time and do more research. Test drives or just climb in some on the lot, go to a GTG ? My AV was the first time I ordered a vehical. Since there were none on lots in April '01 it was my only option. I don't like all the bells & whistles anyway so mine was easy to order but would have been impossible to find. I'll bet few were built like mine.

No, I don't have any Corsa dogs. I have a Rottie, that's kind of close..... I use Corsa in my name because I have a 1966 Chevy Corvair Corsa, 140 with the four carbs. She is slut-red metallic and I love her!!!! Lots of fun to drive and fast!

this is a very family friendly site... we never know who has a little one reading along with them here in the forums..

some don't like it most do though.. I beleive it is part of what makes this site so sucessful...

The Corsa is a sweet machine though... any shots you want to post of her?

We made sure we got a rear locker because we go off-roading and it comes in very handy out there.

As far as radios, we got the stock CD player, it was all we needed. It kinda depends on your demands from a radio. If the radio isn't really a big deal why pay more for things you don't really want/need?

We have the old-school mirrors (pre-camper style) and all three auto dim. Very nice.

Check out the features in person to see if you want them or not. Don't let the salesperson take the lead in your checking things out. See if you can spend some time alone (or with a friend) playing around and crawling around in the AVs checking each option and seeing what you like and what you want. Isn't an hour of really crawling around all over it and playing with the AV a worth while considering how much they cost? I will do it for any vehicle I spend more than $5,000 on. I want to make sure I get what I want for my money.

Welcome to the club and go have some fun!

Just because on dealer doesn't have it doesn't mean it isn't availible. Dealers can pull vehicles off each others lots (even from neighboring states!), so don't fear losing the AV if one dealership gets pushy or wants you to settle for what's on their lot.

Corsagirl,

hehe Colorado has mountains....

I have a cottage in the mountains in Canada... I tow my ATV to the cottage uphill under very slippery conditions. The locking differential will make a difference under those conditions. A locking differential will prevernt one wheel from spinning in the back while the other is just being idle. In effect.. if you don't have a locking differential..and you have the 4X4 option... you are effectively only getting 3 wheel drive under slippery conditions.

Under normal conditions... it won't make a difference for towing (unless you get stuck in mud or snow somewhere). I think that option is $140 (CDN).. if you have the 4X4 option.. then get it by all means... If you tow in areas which are uphill and possibly slippery.. then get it...

I myself, got the 1SD preferred package. You get a good bang for your buck. I believe that only the driver side has electric position control. The folding mirrors are great when you go to the drive-thru fast food outlet and pull up to the window.. or if you do your banking at the drive-thru.

The 4.10 is better for towing than the 3.73 ratio axle (differential). I don't know about the camping mirrors.. since I got the ones that fold and display when using the turn signal.

The HD (Heavy Duty) Trailering package is about $300 (CDN).. and is a must for towing. Don't forget that a standard feature of the AV.. is the TOW/HAUL button on your gear shifter... (this changes the gear shifting pattern to be more aggressive when towing)

Hope that helps alittle...

Oh my god, that is such a pretty Av, nAV!! I have a Westin bullbar just like that on my Ram pickup. Nice to see how it looks on an Av. Thanks to everyone here for all the good advice. I agree it is better to curb yourself and have it a friendly site for everyone, I'll watch my mouth from now on. nAV, what year is your AV?

Whee... specing out someone else's Av - what fun!

For your questions -

Yes, I have power seats on both sides, it's the full leather seats option.
On the outside mirrors, are the camper style mirrors auto dimming on the driver's side?
I haven't paid attention to my mirrors yet, the center one is, but I'm not sure about the outside ones.
Do they also have the power fold function or just extend?
they fold in - it's pretty sweet if you ask me
Why is it that when I chose the very cheapest base vehicle and then go to color options the sunburst orange is not on there?
The site is old - Sunburst Orange II was added as a color option in January
Does the locking differential have any effect on towing?
Yes, it's great for towing as was previously mentioned. Awesome when you go to drop your boat in the lake...
One salesman told me it is bad to have locking diff if you are going to tow.??
That salesman is a moron. next...
What is up with the radio choices-which one is better? (not talking about the XM)
I'm pretty happy with the bose 6 disc in-dash player. I do miss having a casette deck though, but only a teeny little bit...

Good luck ordering that beast. You've been thinking about it for a while now. I did the same before I made my purchase decision. Trust me - there is no longer period of time between when you place the order and when the vehicle is delivered... :B:
