Guys - the Chevy Avalanche Fan Club website needs you! In the new world order of dot com carnage, most search engines make people pay to get listed. No pay, you go into the we'll get around to it when hell freezes over pile.
Now sure, I could pony up a couple of grand and get listed, but then I'd have to run banner ads and sell stuff and get e-mail address and start a newsletter with ads (hey - I may start a news letter if we get enough stories coming in). I don't think folks want that.
Right now we've got our nice little road side cafe, but no one knows it's here. So how can you help? Start submitting to Yahoo!, Alta Vista, Google, and DMOZ. Make sure to use YOUR e-mail address and if they have comments state you use the sight. If they think it's just me being cute, they won't list the site - EVER.
I know that the site is being crawled (web speak for the search engines robots are coming through). I know this because a file that is on most websites called robots is being read several times a day. The engines that go around looking for websites try to find this file to get instructions on which pages too look for.
I also know DMOZ looked at the site - but didn't index it (the bastards). I'd even venture a guess that it is possible that some one here might know the DMOZ editors.
Finally another fair site to try and get us listed on is About.Com - I don't think About will be around much longer but if their 4WD editor saw us - might index us there too.
I really want to roll things out - and I know that some of you have done a huge job of talking up the site, and you rock! I went skiing for a day came back and spent over two hours reading new threads. Now that's cool when I can't even keep up anymore.
GM has sold 55,000 Avalanches - that means if 2% were registered here there would be 1,100 registered users. I need your help getting the word out to the 1,040 who haven't been here yet!!! The guys at the search engines indexing the site would help - if you're interested let them know about the fan club.
