Totally cool keep advised how it works and if you have water problems, noise problems etc. Congrats for being so bold. It appears to have paid off!

Did you cut the mid-gate in just one spot or two. On one picture it look like two cuts. http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/attachments/together_inside.JPG

Is the inside of the midgate aluminum?

how did you seal the cut area?

I made two cuts, so that when lowering, it wouldn't rub against the other seat

midgate is almost totally plastic, only metal was the "nutserts" for the rubber bumpers, and a piece of aluminum to hold the nuts for the hinges

plate for hinge bolts, just completed, so I won't know about leaks or rattles for a few days

haven't sealed the cut area yet, need to find something that will adhere to the plastic, ??? I have a few ideas, but if anyone else knows what will stick to it, I'm all ears

Great work! (y) Congrats on taking the plunge with this effort that many of us are interested in.

I'm thinking you could possibly use straight pieces of rubber window seal to keep the water/dirt out of the cabin. That would help you get a nice tight fit when you close up the midgate. A little RTV silicone would also help out in the nooks and crannies.

The rubber window seal would also help dampen any vibration between the parts of the midgate...

Wow! I checked out every pic you posted and I have to say I think it came out great. I'm sure you'll get a lot of good use out of the only AV with a split mid-gate.

hopefully CHevy has their spyglasses on and realizes the need for this option.

Great Job!.... Looks like you've made history (y) (y)

Weather stripping....

Using window weather stripping may be your best bet. Get a JC Whitney catelog and look through the weather stripping pages for the profiles that would work together and allow either side to be closed first.

This mod is awesome. Since I park outside, weather proofing is a must, once that nailed down, I might attempt...

Great job!

Sweet!! I'm sure there are going to be a lot of people watching this thread...keep us updated! If it all works for you, I will definately be doing this myself, but I think I'm only going to make one cut if possible. Of course, I could only have one side as a pass-thru due to the seat but do you think there would be any other problems with setting it up like that?
