Anyone know how the ice indicator on the rear view mirror works. ??? It's been cold here lately (below freezing) and sometimes it comes on, sometimes it doesn't. Is it tied to the traction control or just the temp?

Could you be thinking about the ice "INTOXICATOR"
rather than ice indicator?Sounds cold to me!

My understanding is that it is strictly temperature. It is an indicator that temperatures are in the range where ice is possible. It has no way of knowing if ice is actually present.

When it first notices that the temperature is at the mid 30's or lower (note that this is not exactly 32) the display will alternate between "ice" and the actual temperature. After a few minutes, it will stop and only display the temperature, as long as the temperature remains cold. The "ice" indication will not remain continuously. After the initial few minutes, the "ice" indication will only return if the temperature warms up and then cools down again, or you restart your truck.

I just did a quick search in the owners manual, and there is no information on the ice feature. :6: My old Blazer had this, and I'm sure there was a couple of paragraphs that described this operation. Oh well, that's progress for you!

Hi,
My ice indicator comes on like clock work at 35 degrees or lower at start up, stays on for approx 2 minutes (falshes between temp and waypoint) every 5 to 10 seconds.

It is only an indicator of ICY conditiona and not to tell you if it is present.

;D

Thanks guys, that pretty much explains why it doesn't come on all the time. Silly me, I've had the AV almost a year and only noticed it the other day. :2:
