I'd like aux "lighter" socket(s) to NOT be hot with ignition off.

I use my right side socket to power an Alex mobile. Have to unplug it every time I quit for the day.
Anybody rewired it. Easy or best way to do it. Don't want to re-invent the solution.
Thanks in advance.

I haven't done it, but realistically you would need a circuit taking input from the ignition and connecting it to the signal end of a normally-open relay. The other end would be wired up to the cigarette lighter. That way when you turn your key, it switches and turns on the socket.

It's a simple circuit, but you'd have to figure out where to attach it in the ignition circuit and then run the relay circuit with it's own fuse to either interrupt the entire cigarette lighter circuit or put it downstream to only affect a single plug.

Unfortunately I don't know if there's an aftermarket "kit" out there for this, but this is the general concept.

i thought there was a fuse in the passeger a piller that has a two way slot. on was hot all times and the other is hot with key on..... i will try to find the info

Davedd, I see in section 5-8 of the 2013 AV owners manual several warnings on the power plugs, you may want to read them...good luck.

my AV is an 03, and the 2 ports on the center dash, are always powered. i have a Blutooth FM transmitter that i use. and every day to get it to connect it has to run through a power cycle, so i unplug it and plug it right back in each time i get in the truck. its a slight annoyance, but if there was an easy fix, i would make at least one of them "switched power"

Thanks Vaeagleav, I checked these warnings. Good advice. Sometimes I don't drive for a week, so the off-with switch is important. I am using the Alexa automobile add-on. Works fantastic with my iPhone. Checking now the two way slot.
Really appreciate the information. Stay Safe and Healthy.

Ok, with your suggestions and help, got it done. Could not find a fuse to change to "on with switch". Maybe not on the 2013. With some help from by BW, found Aux 1 power fed console outlets. Found Aux 2 was switched with ignition. Simply, pulled the Aux 1 fise and replaced it with a 2 amp fuse with link removed. then put a wire from the right side of the Aux 2 fuse (the fused side) to the left leg of the Aux 1 dummy fuse. Looks like I can submit a picture. Wowee! Thanks guys, you are the greatest!
(I better add an Use at your own risk. This mod has not been approved by anybody but me.)

This was posted almost a year ago, is this setup still working to send power to the power outlets only when the switch is on?
