Checking in from NE here and all I can say after rading this thread is WHEW!.
This is something we would definitely love to attend, 1st vote Myrtle Beach, 2nd vote Nashville.
As far as time of the event, from what I've seen from reading threads of other GTGs, coordinators will drive themselves crazy trying to satisfy everyone.
Just my .02 - if an event is going to be held annually, I think that maybe it could be in the same month but shifted slightly from year to year. The same could be true for location.
Just my other .02 - this is a fairly new club, that is growing. Since the Av seems to be a pretty succesful endeavor for GM, I don't see it going away in the near future. This being the case maybe a national commitee of coordinators and key individuals needs to be assembled. This would allow the country to be divided into sections for multi regional meets. I think 3-4 would be sufficient. Within these "super regions", one individual region could host on a rotating basis (this is a great idea that was already brought up in this thread, I'm not sure who and I'm pressed for time right now - just want to make sure that they get the credit for this great idea).
As this person said, this would allow each region to add their own individual flavor to the event.
I think limiting the number of multi regional events would make them accessible to more people and a little easier to plan.
A schedule could be something like this -
Yr.1 - Area 1 and Area 2
Yr.2 - Area 3 and Area 4
Yr.3 National meet
I think this would allow folks both financially and time wise to make more of the larger GTGs. Let's face it not everyone has the funds (we are all paying for AVs remember) or tons of vacation time to spread around. Throw in the local GTGs and everything can get stretched thin. I think limiting the larger events would allow for more local GTGs, (these may be the most important, without strong locals tere would be no nationals). Plus with all GTGs posted on the site, the people with unlimited funds and time could still travel wherever and whenever to meet fellow AVers, at local events outside their area.
Okay that was more like my $1.02, but I hope this will spur some discussion. I would be willing to help in anyway possible thanks. All i can say after typing all this is WHEW!
