I just purchased an avalanche and am going through seals/moldings to see what should be serviced or replaced. I came across a shiny seal. Can anyone identify what this part is? It is in the midgate and is shredding apart. I've tried searching on gmparts and I couldn't locate it. Perhaps it was owner added?

Might be seal fro ma SNug Top but is not stock GM I have seen.

First welcome to the club and AV ownership... Yep... It's not a factory seal, pervious owner must have added it.. That panel can be adjusted tighter to help make a better seal..

Look here for more info.. I also always recommend this manual/cd that is always on ebay, it's the factory manual for service techs to diagnose water issues, it gives you a good understanding of how it all works .. This guy wants to much $$ for it at this time but if you watch it they come down in price.. It picked it up years ago for $15.00 bucks

Good luck..

Thank you for the links. I wonder if that cd is the same as the video I saw on YouTube.

Could it be from a soft top. ??? I never had one so I can't say for sure.

Not from a Snugtop. They seal at the top. That area is fully exposed with a Snugtop. This from an owner of a Snugtop

Yes that video is the same but you get manual with other help full tips.

Thank you everyone for your input. As I was looking at the molding/seals on the tonneau covers. I also noticed the same type of seal. I guess that was their attempt to waterproof. When I did my first detail, I notice that the pad under the carpet was wet at rear driverside corner of cab. Looks like I got some adjustments to make to do make it right.

Take a look at the plastic/fiberglass window frame also.. Very common to crack in the lower corners and the gap will let water in..
