Ignition trouble

Hey guys,
I have a question. Just purchased an 2005 LS 1500 Chevy Avalanche w/ Flex Fuel Injection. My problems are the vehicle taking gas and starting. I've order the parts to hopefully fix the "taking gas fiasco" but I'm confused about this starting problem. If I turn the key and just let it turn over, eventually it does start. However, I kno this isn't normal. I plan on dropping the tank, cleaning it, adding a new few filter and a new fuel pump assembly. Is there any one with this starting issue?
Sometimes if I don't use this trick a buddy show me and turn the key, but not turn over the engine, it seem to allow the fuel pump enough time to pump some fuel before the initial turnover. At first the pump sounded rough, but after 2 cans of Seafoam and some Marvel Mystery Oil. It quieted down.

Your new fuel pump with built in fuel filter should solve the starting issue.

My 2003 Avalanche would not start at the first turn of the key.

Once started, the fuel pump ran normally and provided enough fuel pressure for the engine to run normally.

Ended up being the old OEM fuel pump had a fuel pressure check valve that was bad.

The check valve was supposed to maintain the full fuel pressure long after the key was turned off.

This ensures the fuel injectors have full fuel pressure when the key is first turned.

Otherwise, it takes a few seconds to build up enough fuel pressure for the fuel injectors to function.

Hence, the delay in starting you are experiencing.

If you want to verify, buy or borrow from a parts store a fuel pressure test kit.

Check the pressure with key off, key on/engine off, engine on and then engine off/key off.

If you see the fuel pressure bleed off at all when the key is turned off, the check valve is bad and the new fuel pump should solve your starting issue.

Be sure to install an OEM replacement fuel pump since some aftermarket units have shown to not be of the best quality.

This is not a repair you will want to repeat every so often.

Ask yourself how long the original fuel pump lasted when considering buying something else just because of cost.

Thank you very much. I kinda had that feeling but now I feel better knowing that when the parts get here I'll be closer to resolving this issue. Thanks for your knowledge!
