I just noticed an amazing happening this weekend. ? ;D ?So on Sunday I went out to the Oregon coast Sand Dunes down by Florence on our cruise.

Now out on the dunes they have razorbacks - sharp drop offs formed by small creeks that wind their way through the sand, cutting through the dunes and creating well mini-cliffs. ?The locals told me on Monday that sometimes these cuts through wind and water can grow to 15 feet high, and some people have gotten really hurt on them.

Anyway I found one of these razorbacks (and sadly brmiller followed me over) and as I came to a stop my front end dropped over and I was hanging down. ?Now faced with being stuck I put my Avalanche in first 4-Lo and stood on the gas pedal. ?With some struggling Cartman (the name I gave my Avalanche) pulled himself over.

Now as the rear end came down it dragged through the wet sand. ?Sadly I tore up a lot of the styrofoam behind there, but I didn't rip the cover and as I was planning on replacing my rear bumper anyway I wasn't worried about it.

You see back in August I got backed into by a Lexus that damaged the rear cover and bent my left bumper bracket pretty good, so the bumper was pushed in on the left hand side.

So this morning I parked my Avalanche at work and got out. ?As I walked out I was looking at the rear end and then it caught my eye.

No....it can't be....that's not possible.

I checked on the passenger side, two finger widths away from the rear quarter.

I checked on the driver side, two finger widths away from the rear quarter.

I checked the height between the tailgate and the bumper on the driver side, two finger widths away.

I checked the height between the tailgate and the bumper on the passenger side, two finger widths away.

OH MY GOD! ? :2: (y) ;D ?The sand pulled my bumper out, bent the left bracket and as if the angels above smiled upon me, put my bumper back within 1/8" of it's original position. ?

That's right folks - my rear bumper is healed! ?I believe! ?So now with a new rear cover already on the way (and a bracket I no longer) need I'm faced with the challenge of trying to just repair the cladding and pass on the cover to another in need.

Pretty amazing story and I thought I would share. ? :B:

Just wondering as I want to be clear on what can and cannot be discussed as this has become very opinionated in the last few weeks. ?Thanks!!!

It has been an "interesting" week or so to say the least. Time to huddle around the campfire and sing a little Kumbaya!

Someone is watching over you Chief, maybe it was Goo929 from up above lending you a hand. ;)

Miss Avalanche :B:

Goo is up there shaking his head wondering what the heck is going on down here with what he worked so hard to keep the peace.

Everyone is proving just how important Goo was to this board. ?We never had major problems.

then again the elasticity was much greater when involving any issues regarding the TOS and we all stuck together as one big happy Av family.

Chief,
while we are on the topic of Jesus, ya think you could ask him to watch over the Bass topic issues on the board? we need all the help we can get >:D

I'm locking this thread. As distasteful as I find Traficant and although the replies have been kept clean, with the current state of emotions between Dems and Reps and the 2002 elections in the balance this could easily fall down a slippery slope.

Although any conversation is welcome at Dave's Bar & Grille - I have to ask that we keep away from politics and religion. With 1,700 members there is going to be strong opinions

Ok so according to your own words you ask that we leave religion and politics out. Did I miss something here?

OYE VEY here we go! Jesus when is this gonna end?

Is this going to be censored by one of the moderators for violation of TOS for bringing what could be classified as Religion into the board? I do believe this has been brought up in the past and we have been asked to not bring religion up at all.

Just wondering as I want to be clear on what can and cannot be discussed as this has become very opinionated in the last few weeks. Thanks!!!

Sadly I was going to Nail Chief's butt to the wall for vilotaing the "terms of use" >:D But there is nothing in there regarding religion :6:

I know but it has been a long standing rule that I was hit with a couple of times by moderators in the past that there is no religion or politics to be discussed. ?Just check the link to Chiefs post above in mnblckav's post. I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page here. ?And to have a little fun of coarse. ? (y)

Jon

Exactly. It would be no fun around here if we couldn't bust each others chops alittle. ?;D

I have come to expect a little bit of being dished out. So long as, in moderation, it is understood as razzing and not a jab ~ I have no problem with it.

Isn't it amazing how sand covers up drops from view so easily? It is pretty amazing still. Just think there could have been QS at the bottom or the bottom could have been another 10 feet lower!

Don't be so hard on yourselves, moderators... I haven't seen any of the 'evils' mentioned here. Good work. (y)

Chief - this is one of the funnies things I've heard! Uhh... "Congrats" on the anti-damage?! ;D

So two opposite kinds of bad lucks, make a right? ;D

So now all brmiller has to do is find a Lexus!
I guess. I didn't see this thread until just now, and while I don't begrudge Chief's good fortune (he certainly deserves it), I was gonna post something along the lines of "Lucky you--thanks for nothing--etc.etc." I still go on with some days being a grown-up ("That's life, suck it up kid...") and some days being pretty bitter about the whole thing. So reading that Chief's truck got "healed" was kind of hard, I guess.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that I dropped it off at the body shop today for it's reincarnation. I just guess I'm a little nervous that
  • it will never be the same again
  • there will be more serious damage that will take even longer to fix
  • the insurance company will screw with me
  • ...
You know how your mind can get.

So congrats Chief; I did get a chuckle out of the Lexus joke (thanks geopyp).

Brendan

Don't worry to much Brendan. You'll get it back soon and then you can go off-roading with me >:D >:D >:D

I won't let your AV get hurt too bad. At least less than what Chief got you into... HEHE >:D

So I wonder if this would have worked for BigRed if he had tried to roll it back the other way?

Probably not. BigRed is still young enough that he thinks he is immortal, and drives as such. Just ask anyone who saw him at WW2002.

He's not a bad kid though. I got some great pics of him getting high centered the last time he was brave enough to go out with me. Only problem was ha had to be towed off his perch by a FORD :D: I would have dont it but my AV was not in position to do it.

immortal? ?gee micheal i say we take skidd's word... you and me, i can take out my newly lowered av with anti sway bars, and you with your truck, then we can take our trucks up to say... 70+ and see who can test a dead left hand turn. stuck between being brave enough and thinking you are immortal or do you not want to try out skidd's theroy for me and end up side down and possibly dead? now who thinks they are immortal.

~BIGRED ?
