Improved Milage Mods?

After reading until my eyes are red, let's save some time. I have read about all the H.P. Mods. but has anyone made any Mods spacifically aimed at impoving gas milage? I read the thread about the tornado (thanks by the way, saved me on that one). What about the magnets that are suppose to improve fuel mixture, by aligning the electrons. I know about getting cooler air from outside the engine compartment, but has anyone tried interducing misted water into the intake to cool the fuel? What about computer programing for less performance and better milage? High-rise intake? rocker-roller lifters? Sinthetic oils? I'm sure that someone has thought of some other things. I'm sure we could all use better milage, and some of these would result in better H.P. Thanks guys!

I would have to say that there is only ONE that will actually increase milage
That is--- SYNTHETIC OIL's or additives

My last 2 vehicles got better than average with no other mods--The theory is the easier engine parts can turn, the less friction--which equalls better economy

All other mods-- wether it be Fipk-filters-Exhaust programmers---etc--etc--etc /or 20-22" wheels -
-ALL MAKE YOU PUT YOUR FOOT IN IT MORE

If it looks fast or sounds fast or you think it's fast
You'll make it go fast
Sorry Guy's

I concur...when I started using Mobil 1 full synthetic, I did see an increase of approximately 1-2 miles per gallon.

I know there are different variables to getting an accurate MPG rating, but I do believe the synthetic helped.

The cheapest, most effective way to improve gas mileage is to take some of the weight off your right foot. No mods that you pay for will ever pay back enough in mpg to justify it.

Good one--I should have mentioned that first

Maybe someone should patten a heilium filled sneaker/boot and sell it as the ultimate gas saver
sort of like the Pet Rock

I agree with all the above, and if you get a 1 mpg improvement at $1.60/gal of fuel you will just about break even on recouping the cost of the synthetic oil.

Bottom line, in my humble opinion, is that if you want better mpgs, get a Harley and just park the AV. They do look nice in the driveway.....

It's always been my opinion that performance mods (not superchargers) increase the efficiency with which your vehicle burns fuel or how efficiently it puts that power to use, thereby providing the driver with the opportunity to increase their mileage.

Unfortunately, these gains are seldom realized because the modifications also provide your engine with the ability to use MORE fuel per mile so it will go faster!

So, if you have enough self control to avoid putting your expenditure to use in the form of faster acceleration, you should get more MPG.

Some modifications, like superchargers, are there to force more air and therefore more fuel through the engine. They don't make your engine use fuel more efficiently nor do they increase the efficiency power use.

Back in the old days when engines were much less efficient, a lot of the hop ups we did gained both. It's a lot harder, and more costly, to actually improve the efficency of today's engines. So a lot less bang for the buck mileage wise.

Someone needs to make an accelerator dampener devise that only allows us to depress the gas pedal at a slow rate. Therefore, we could not mash the pedal and waste gas! My wife is the worst with that - I fell like I'm in a carnival ride when she's driving! ;)

I'm thinking about turning this thread around a bit. There is a general consensus that none of the typical performance mods result in any significant increase in mileage.

So instead of mods that may improve mileage, how about mods that may decrease mileage? I'm not really thinking about lift kits and larger tires, since those most certainly result in lower mileage. But rather the relatively inexpensive accessories that add weight or change the airflow around the truck.

For example, I was getting between 14 and 15 mpg driving my daily routine to work and such. I added a GM wind deflector and molded mud guards over this past Christmas, and now I'm getting about 12.5 - 13.5 mpg.

Has anyone seen anything similar? What about those who have roof racks, or even Bedslides?

I'M a big fan of K&N filters i replaced the stock filter and increased my milage to ?24 mtg on the road

Hey have you only been travelling downhill since you put that thing on? That seems like a very large gain!!

I had a '98 blazer ZR2 before I got my Av and I only got about 15MPG. Now in my Av i get 17 to 18MPG. I traded up to a bigger SUV and got better gas milage. Now at one point i did get 20MPG in the Blazer but the Alternater went out and that is what was giving me the extra 5MPG. Sad to say that I got stuck somewhere cause of that. Remove the alternater and you'll get better gas milage.;D I'm just teasing.

You want to know what i did to get better gas milage. I was giving a free car and I drve that back and forth to work. I was givin a '93 Chevy Lumina Z34 and it gets about 20 to 25MPG depending on how many drives make me mad and go around them cause they are stupid. That hcar probably had to much get up and go for me cause I like to punch the gas. I heard some guy once say, "Do you think I could have bought this truck if I could not afford the gas." I kind of like that saying.

I just drive my truck for fun. It is like a sprots car to me. But, I can drive my truck in bad weather if I want that is the only difference and i'm not afraid to get it dirty.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I took my deflector off on this last fill-up to see if it will make a difference.

24 mpg?? Are you driving downhill, both ways, with the engine off? lol

What do I do. I have both a Harley and an AV >:D

OK my bug deflector is coming off tonight!

So......... it had to come off any way. I installed a Lunar Visor and it's making it vibrate to much. :6:

Got to agree with atomtaz about the gas prices. I don't think any of us purchased this dream machine thinking we would get fantastic gas milage. I know when my car was in for service, I made the mistake of sitting in the AV on the showroom floor and lost my virginity and wanted one. researched and purchased it. drive it everyday in DC,(traded in the car) and watched gas price go up to 173.9 today. still cannot beat the feeling behind the wheel. My '86 dodge van only gets 12 mpg on the road so I think I am doing good now.

???After each mod that i have added and logged in mileage on my work computer, i have not noticed any gain.
The only time i gained was when i added the mobil one 5w-30 synthetic and it has averaged out to about .8mpg.
HPP3, Airaid throttle body spacer, direct hits, airaid intake, flowmaster 70 series,
The only positive thing i can add is that my mileage only dropped for the first tank that i put these mods on and that was due to testing >:D >:D
Truck will have its one year birthday on the 5th of march and has 43,500 miles and has averaged out at 18.8 on highway driving. Have had a couple of tanks that went to 19.2 but that was a perfect night, no traffic, no wind, no A/C...........
Like the others mentioned, i did not expect to get the mileage i am getting now, but this is what i wanted and this is what i got, Love every minute of it............If i was getting 16.5 i would still love it, just back pocket would not stick out as much.......

Just picked up my AV on 2-25-03. My milage on my first fillup was 11.5 mpg. It was all around town driving.

244 miles on 21.3 gallons of gas.
Average of 11.5 mpg.
At an average speed of 23.23 mph.

Sorry guys, but there is no way that the bug deflector is causing an mpg impact that you are mentioning. Maybe .1 mpg is possible, but that tiny piece of plastic is not having that kind of effect on the 3 ton vehicle. I got 15/16 mpg when I bought it. I have the air dam, mud guards, bug deflector and guess what, I still get 15/16 mpg.

What?s the most accurate way of measuring MPG? Fill up and see how many miles you go? How accurate is the Average MPG display? Mine is at 14.1?????

I put my dogs in the back of the truck and for shade I left the last #3 Panel on. Then I thought about it. That is the most un aerodynamic thing you could do and did notice a difference in MPG when I put all the Panels on.
