I took my AV 2500 4x4 in for the Air Conditioner once again.

I took it in about three weeks ago when it seemed to be only blowing cool air, not cold air. It was especially noticeable at idle and in slow traffic.

Yes it is true that a black truck in the Las Vegas heat (114 today) is difficult to cool down, but if the air out of the vents in barely cool, it will never cool down.

When the dealer had it the last time, they replaced a switch in the engine compartment, not on the dash (don't have the exact name of the part ? the paper work is in the truck). That repair seemed to help for about a week, now just blowing cool again.

To me it seems like it isn't fully charged. I guess I'll see what they come up with this time.

GM is known for its excellent AC - hope the AV will live up to that reputation.

Cheers - Jim

Since the new cars don't use the ozone unfriendly R12 coolant anymore the air does not seem as cold. My Av air has been fine so far. I'll be driving my 2500 to Vegas on Aug 18th I'll see how it works then. should be plenty hot...

May 8,02.....replace a/c compressor.
May 27,02....replace a/c compressor.

Next.... ???

So far, my Av's A/C seems to be OK. Have the summer's first road trip coming up over the Fourth of July weekend. That will be more of a test than it's had yet.

'Tis true that the R134A refrigerant doesn't cool like R12, but a system designed around it ought to get the job done - I'll be interested in what you find out about yours.

Hey Jim

I had problems similiar to what you described on my black Z71 1500. My dealer indicated that GM had a bulletin out on this problem. I don't know what they did, but it seams to be working just fine know.

The dealer just called - they found a second leak, said that it showed up after they fixed the first. That explains the slow reduction in cooling over the last few days. Hope this will fix the problem...Jim

I brought mine in for the second time too. The first time, they replaced the alternator and said it was a faulty alternator (internal failure).

Today, I brought it in for the same thing (air conditioner turning off, then blowing hot air, then at times the lights in that area turning off/on). This mostly occured at idle or slow speeds.

The problem, they say, was the air conditioner control heads. They replaced it no charge. Let's see what happens over the next few days.

Anyone else have this issue?

I have the Auto Climate Control and gave this a try this weekend for the first time. It worked fine also. Have heard of issues with the Auto setting not working properly. I usually run in the manual mode.

I have had the same thing happen with my Z71 while at idle speed. When at running speed it works fine. I have not taken it in yet. It is more noticeble on those extremly hot days. Can't decide what to do about it since days in Kansas are cooling down. I guess I am waiting for G.M. to narrow the problem down.

What is your born on date, and what is your deliver date? I think if the vechile is sitting on the lot to long, the air condition probalby won't work that well? I don't think the dealer start up the engines to often?

Had the same issue on my Z66, dealer replace the A/C low pressure switch and this appears to have resolved the issue.

I bought mine in July 2001. I believe my born date may be in April/May?

R Webb, I'd recommend bringing it in. You should be covered under warranty.

I'm not sure if the auto climate control on my 1500 is working properly. AC seems to be working fine, but when it gets cold out, it does not seem to switch to heat (in auto mode). Also, the light on the AC button stays on all the time. Does anyone know if the light supposed to go out when the tempurature gets cold enough that the AC is not running? The manual says that the AC compressor turns on and off automatically as needed, but does the light go on and off too, or does it stay on?

It hasn't been cold enough here yet for me to tell for sure if its working right or not. It just does not seem to warm as well as it cools.

Not to hijack this thread but....

Try this test (for those with the automatic climate control system). Turn fan speed and direction knobs to auto. Turn your temperature to full hot (all the way clockwise). Now turn your direction knob to anything and turn it back to auto. Does your a/c light come on? Mine does. Compressor starts up too.

How about this one. Set everything to auto and temperature to full cold just after starting the car. A/C does not come on unless you hit the A/C button. Turn temperature to full hot and A/C compressor will not turn off unless button is pressed again.

I can't tell if this is a bug/failure of the A/C or just wonky design from GM.... :cautious:

Any ideas?

I had the same problem - but it seems the Air would stay on if Recirculate was chosen - only way to get Air to stop was to turn temp all the way to hot.
Took to dealer and the mechanic claimed he didn't see a problem, the service rep and I both looked at him and said we didn't think it was suppose to work like that - mechanic said it was and walked away?

My solution for now is when I want the a/c off I press the fresh-air button and make sure the a/c light is off.

Anyone have any ideas?

Tried it all. Dealer replaced low pressure switch and high pressure hose with leak. Still have the warm air blow for approx 5 minutes after start on hotter days. Heat works fine.

If there is a service bull for this does anyone have the number?
